How hard is it to replace the front hub assy? Any thing I need to look out for? Any special tools? Also can you replace just the bearings or do I really need to buy the whole hub? Thanks for any help that can be offered :-) Oh yeah it's an 05 350
I have an 02 250 and just replaced ball joints. I checked the bearings while they were out and looked good. My research and assistance from the forum says its not a servicable part so replacing the hub assembly is the only option. Not hard to do and you can follow the instructions from Racerguy from his ball joint how to post. It has great pics and step by step instructions are spot on.
A good set of snap ring pliers and the bigger the better will help get the retaining ring out once you pull the locking hub, if I remember right. I'm no mechanic but it only took 1 day from start to finish to do both sides. Good luck.
There is another choice; replacing the unit bearings with a serviceable bearing conversion kit from Dynatrac or Spyntec - I did that last summer on my 1999 350 4x4.
They should have kits for 2005 F350, check it out.
