THis mustang engine I have has been sitten for a while, its not siezed so thats good, but is there anything I should do before I start it up, ,i have put about half a quart worth of oil threw the spark plug holes so hopefully ill get those ring lubed up so they wont crap out on me when I first start this engine, ,is there any other precautions i should take before I crank her over for the first time in mym truck, ,its a 1992 5.0 froma stang goin in my 91 f-150. I just dont want to mess up this engine before I even get a chance to show it off to all my friends. ok well thank for everything
I would replace any gaskets that are bad and clean the motor up real good. another thing is I think the mustang motors used the 351 fireing order, you might need to swap in a different computer box. but other then that make sure its full of oil, and prime the oil pump to or replace it while the motor is out.
Yeah.... what did u have in there befor the 5.0? Also I thought 5.0 was a 302? So wouldnt it have the 302 firing order? Also, if u can, disconnect the battery and turn it over by hand about 4 times, so the oil has a chance to get all inside of the cylender walls, that way u wont have to worry about it, and make sure all of the passageways are clear (no mice or dead birds pluging anything in the exhaust or cooling system.... I know somone who had an old 352 and installed it in his truck and it got really hot, so he cigured it was somthing to do with the thermostat.... and there was a furrball on the thermostat..... he had to flush everything, and it was a pain in the a$$ to clean out the hair from the radiator.... I think there was an entire nest of them in that damn thing...
I found that if u turn it over by hand about 4 times it does the same as pulling the dizzy and turning the oil pump shaft..... Just make sure u do it more than once..... and make sure u get that dizzy back in the way it came out... If u have problems and it wont go down all of the way, u will have to take it out and turn the oil pump shaft little by little untill u get it to line up with the distributor shaft.... But if U turn it by hand u dont have to take anything apart and its alot less hassel..... also (I wouldnt do this) but, I read in a book that alot of people useto just take off the coil wire (so u have no spark but u can still turn the engine over) and crank it over about 10 times and then put the coil wire back on and start her up.... If I were u I wouldnt recomend doing that.... but its just somthing I read.... hope she fires right up for ya when u get her operational...
