On groundhog: Tractor or old Ford truck exhaust piped to the hole. Seal hole. Stand back a distance with gun at ready so when he exits other hole you pop the GH. He may not come out. I got one of them critters hanging out in the bank down by my creek. Just waiting to get a shot at him. Really don't want the big dog to get a hold of him as she is about as old in dog years as I am.

Aww man - I ran over a rabbit nest, and killed two. (with my mower - it was definite )
The other two I took to the woodline around my place, because I really do like critters.

(The freakin' belt cost me forty seven, and change!)

* I also know their momma won't go near them again (because my smell is on them), but maybe they will remember me some way.... (I picked them up out of the weeds, and carried them to MY WOODS (the ones around the back of my place)

~You're gonna ask why

I wish I had a pic, there was no time for that. They were small and grey, streaked with black in places, and didn't bite.
Like tiny little grey cotton puffs

I wonder if they will know me if they live?

Wouldn't that be way cool???

*Before you say it - I grow a lot more than I can eat. I can spare a little for small fuzzy ones...
I believe they are spirit guides

Now, if I follow Native American way -

I have to ask why "RABBIT" appeared in this way for me

But I still love those little ones, and hope they do well
(even if it costs me lettuce and carrots)

It sorta bugs me that the prime characteristic of "RABBIT" is as a fertility symbol

~ I'm good, but I'm over fifty years old...

So what is THAT supposed to mean?

Bullcrud and superstition -
But what if true?

Is a special one that I have waited for all of my life about to appear?

We raised a couple of them, the smell bs is to keep kids from pickin them up, the mother doesn't care, I hit a nest with the mower, rounded them up, put in a box they couldn't escape, but momma could get to, she came and got them. Dad only wants to kill the groundhogs, rabbits don't eat that much, after bottle feeding 4 over the years, just not gonna kill one. I have quite a few pictures of little bunny's that we raised, mom and my uncle had chipmunks when they were kids.
If the dern ground will dry out, mom and dad are ready to plant the garden, their replacement tiller with new Kolar really tore the ground up last week, clay soil retains the water quite well.

I harvested over an acre of green stuffs, and it's spread around in the spots I wanted to build up first.

I have a soil experiment patch in an area that I KNEW was poor soil. I already turned a good heap of stuff into it once, just now it's a foot deep in cuttings.

When they dry up some, I'll till it all in deep

You plant sweet grass at the end of the season, and turn it under the next year to feed the soil.

I harvested a gallon-sized bag of leaf lettuce from the garden and one container today...enough for several large salads. Guess what's on the menu for tonight....

I second that! I find tho - that it's best picked at first light so that it is the freshest, and the crispest possible. Lettuce picked in the heat of the day tends to be wilted...

Well Fellas - they've reached the mezzanine level, and there are six and a half months in the growing season here! These are the "Weeks Seed Co." Giant delicious tomato's, and if they run true to form I just may have created a monster here...
* I added Garden Lime to the tomato plots on a recommendation from a Guy I met at Lowes, and they positively LEAPED upwards in the last several weeks!
One entire forty pound sack for the three areas together (240 Sq. Ft.)

To the left behind them you can see a few of my other efforts: Lettuce, cages for yellow squash and giant cucumbers, and the big round dark green leaves are Brussels Sprouts coming along nicely.

I started some eggplant today as well - because I heard they were getting hugely popular (and are also very expensive). The version two of the tom-trellis is off to the right. I designed it to be capable of being raised or lowered, but it seems a lot more awkward and less utility than the original idea.

.
But, respectfully, sir, fresh lettuce is good no matter when it is picked Picked while the dew is on is better, though.
