According to the 1948-1956 Parts and Accessories Catalog, the frames are NOT the same. 1948-1952 shows one part number and 1953-1956 shows a different one. The illustrations below also show substantial differences.
You said you have an illustration of a 48-52 frame with dimensions. I beleive you probably have this in the book "Ford pick up Trucks - Development history and restoration guide" by Paul G. McLaughlin.
If that's the case, then it's the same illustration i referred to above. If you compare it to the illustrations that George posted - you'll see that what McLaughlin captions as a 48-52 frame is actually the 53-56 frame. No question what-so-ever.
