Free mud flaps!!!
For a few weeks now I have been searching around the internet trying to find the perfect size mud flaps for my truck. I've taken some measurements and detirmined that I need them to be about 22" wide to go all the way from the inside of the wheel well and extend out 4" to match the fender flares I am putting on.
I've had a lot of trouble finding what I want. I asked my buddy who is working on my truck about ideas on where to source them locally. He scratched his head a little bit, knowing that the parts store just has normal sized mud flaps. Then he told me to try this local place called McLeod's Spring & Chassis. He said they only work on big rigs and big rigs have big mud flaps.
So I called them up and they said they have two sizes: 24"x36" and 24"xx32". I told them I could probably make 24"x32" work and asked how much it would be. To which he responded, um, they are free if you have our logo facing out! I'm like holy crap that is great. Then I asked him if I were to buy them, so I didn't have to show their logo, how much would they cost? He said he had no idea, they've never sold any before, everyone just gets the free ones. So I was going to go there yesterday and get 4 of them but I ran out of time.
Then today I was walking down the street and I saw a big ugly GMC dually with some "Capitol City GMC" mud flaps on it. Then I got thinking maybe my local Formula Ford would give me some mud flaps. So I called Formula Ford and told them that McLeod's was offering me free flaps and that I'd gladly give them the free advertising if they wanted to outfit my truck with their flaps. The woman on the phone was a little shocked at my question. She grumbled for a little bit and then told me $50 for them to install them. I asked what if I just pick them up? She said she didn't know and $50 was just a made up number.
At any rate, if anyone needs mud flaps and you don't care what they say on them... try calling some places and asking for free ones. I'll probably go with McLeod's flaps since they are cool and the local Ford place is stupid. If I later decide that I don't want to advertise for them I can try and find something else.

We'll I might make the Excursion into a dually if I can find an SD 350 to get some axles from. For now I just need mud flaps to get inspected because my truck is gonna be so tall. I figured since I have to get them I may as well get huge ones so that I protect the truck.

Oh, and skip the Ex as a dually. I have seen it done locally and I think it looks really stupid. However, the one here was a 2wd that was also lowered with a really hopped up 7.3 powerstroke in it... But it still looked stupid.

24" x 24" It should be really easy to trim an inch off each side to make them 22" wide. They have sort of a corrugated pattern running vertical on the non-logo side.
I think it looks good when done right. All lowered trucks look stupid to me. A lifted Excursion Dually would look much like an F350 Dually with a cap. There would be a huge safety benefit to the added stability whit the tall lift I'm putting on there.

I don't have 'em on there
I am only gonna use them if I end up going dually. I found some very nice generic mud flaps 12"x18" that do the job for now. I got a set of four for $30, not bad at all. I'll keep them up front if I go dually.
As for the lettering, that truck shop is one of the coolest places I've ever seen, I don't mind doing a little advertising for them. If I get tired of it, I'll buy some.
