OK here's my delemma....... 77 std. cab doors, glass & interior have been removed, IS there a way 1 personcan lift this off the frame? I have a cherry picker but ABSOLUTLY NO help. Seems everybody is either working ALL the time, have heart problems, family problems or just plan don't want to. So much for friends and payback WILL be a B****. Any ideas will help. Please don't make light of this as I to am an older guy (62) Popa John
I lifted one once with a cherry picker. I ran some lift straps thru the inside and brought them together over the top......worked just fine.....secret is SLOW and EASY! You could also lift it and block across with some 4x4s then drag the frame out from under it. Hell...if the Egyptians could build the great pyramids.....you can lift a cab off...
Put a 1" hole in the middle of a 2X8. run the 2X8 through the doors with the windows down. Install bolt pointing up on end of cherry picker. Insert bolt from cherry picker into hole on 2X8. Lift.
I took the tranny hump section out , slid a board under the cab between the cab and frame, hooked to that and lifted with the cherry picker inside the cab. took a couple of tries to get the weight evenly distributed, but once balanced, it worked great. I've done everything on the truck by myself, its not hard, just slow.
That's great! American ingenuity at it's best! Glad it worked out safely.
oops... My Glasses must be blurry! Thought OP had accomplished his task... I went the other way with the straps. From under the cab in back, up and over and connected to the hood mounts.
Glad everyone did this without injury! Good luck Popa John Just take your time.

Once I got the frame pulled far enough forward that the rear axle was against the stands, I brought my cherry picker to the rear and ran a short chain from the left rear body mount hole to the right and picked it up enough to clear. For the front I just pulled it up till it touched the stands, then put some other stands behind the axle and pulled the fronts out. I end up doing everything myself as my friends aren't reliable and I'm impatient.
I had mine stripped down as you do and I just wrapped a chain around the roof as far forward as I could get it. I put folded up cardboard around the cab where the chain contacted the sheet metal. It lifted straight up with my shop crane (heavier and bigger than a cherry picker engine hoist) I rolled it over and dropped it on the new frame by myself. No sweat. No bent roof either.
I took a 4x4 wood of high quality and set it on the top of the cab the lumber needs to be longer than the cab is wide, with doors open, run a strap through the inside of the cab and loop it over the 4x4 then run it back to the other door of the cab and outside loop over the top of the 4x4 and back into the cab and hook it. Hook to the center of the 4x4 and lift. Shut doors for balance over top of straps and put straps up as close to the front windshield as possible. The 4x4 wil keep the straps from pulling the top of the cab together and they balance well here. I used a 2" ratchet strap for mine. i didn't go through the doors but stayed outside. I had absolutely no damage. By staying at the froont pillars, you minimize risk of cab distortion and it is good since they balance here too.
