460 help, im lost

Hello
been reading here for 3 days just on 460 builds and im lost.
Here is the deal, building a stock pulling truck. stock stroke, .040 over pistons, and dove-c heads.
wanted a stroker, but think spend more money on cam and top end rather then cubic inches.
my block will clean up at .040, need a new crank, have to use the dove-c head, to much money spend on them now, bigger valves, planned, ported and have a 429 CJ intake to use with ports matched.
So here is the help i need.
Where do i get pistons that are 40 over that will keep my CR around 10.5 to 11.
what about rods, just use stock rods? or do I have to upgrade?
And how in the world do I figure out what camshaft to use? there seems to be way to many options out there, and I dont have any rocker arms or push rods to start with.
Im guessing rpm's will be around 6500 max, and using a 750 double pumper holly carb, need to use at least some pump gas, and could mix it with something else if i need more octane.
Anybody got any ideas?
Thanks
Shawn

Shawn we have a similar engine an 87 460 bored 30 over with stock type dish pistons home ported d0ve c heads edlebrock aluminum intake comp roller rockrs cloys douple roller timing cain timed straight up we get 5500 rpms is all we can get it has some type of comp cam my dad put in a coupla years ago when moter was rebuilt but lost the cam card and i dont know what it is we gonna pullit out and try to see what it is if u figure out a good cam let me know like u say there are so many.I dont know what our cr is but ive been told the doves dont run good on pump gas we run 110 race fuel but all we do is pull the truck u would probably have to upgrade ignition too if you want 6500 rpm.Ive been told the stock rotating assembly is good for 6000 rpm if you cant get any good awnsers here try 460ford.com there alot of info on that site.

Shawn, you can order pistons from Diamond or J&E in about any oversize you want. they may not have them on the shelf but will make them and if a common top don't usually cost anymore.

If you can I would upgrade to at least some Hbeam rods. Oliver billet I beam are even better but so is the price (around $1400 for a set)

cams are a different science all together. do you know rules on roller cams or not? Can you afford a roller cam (now is a good time to decide this cause if you go with a roller you really need to upgrade your valves too). If not roller then mech or hyd? if Mechanical make sure you phave screw in studs and guideplates installed on your heads.

Then it's just a matter of choice, ever engine builder that can design a cam will probably give you slightly different but similar specs. Pick your cam company and ask if they already have a shelf grind that is for puller motors in your rpm range.
