I'd like help selecting the some parts for my 460, this is the first 460 I've built. The engine is going in a 68 torino which will be used primarally fo cruising and drag racing. I'm also on somewhat of a budget.
the main parts I'm having trouble deciding on are pistons and cam shaft.
I'm looking to run about 11:1 compression with c9ve-a heads. what pistons or machine work would you reccomend to achieve this.
Your best bet with a cam is one of the new hyd. rollers. If your more into drag racing than cruising a solid roller is the only way to go. A good forged trw or speed pro piston will work fine.
Being on a budget, I would suggest a set of KB pistons (would get you around 11.2:1 if I remember right with the smaller chanber of the C9VE head) and a Comp Cams Extreme series camshaft.
Being on a budget here is going to hurt you. 11.1 compression with stock heads will be dicey on pump gas. You will want as tight as you can get on quench. Also if you don't work the heads they will lay down at about 5000 rpm's. But as far as pistons and cam's Breeze has it right. Just remember when using KB's to follow the instructions for the top ring gap. Don't let anyone tell you different.
you, know, I have thought about it. But, its the truth. I'm an ASE and GM certified Master Tech at a chevrolet, pontiac Dealership. I've always enjoyed working on OLD Fords though. I also own more ford products than I do GM.
