I just had a Sirius radio installed and now my radio won't shut off when you turn the key off and open the door. Coincidence? Maybe. My auto lamps won't automaticlly turn off after the normal delay when I shut my truck down. My remote door locks won't work as well. The instrument panel has the door ajar light on all the time now. I went back to the installer who pulled a few fuses and the timer relay and somehow reset something, and got it fixed for a short time, but it went bad again. The first symptoms were the auto lamps blinking on and off while driving at night, then a day later the other symptoms started. Any ideas on what may be bad? The installer said it could be either the headlamp switch or it could be a bad timer relay. Oh yeah, when you open the door in the morning, the dome light doesn't come on either.

I have heard of this happening with quite a few vehicles. Have you tried a specialty audio shop-as opposed to like, worst buy or circuit **itty?I would never , ever trust my truck to those installers. I may humbly suggest that if you had it installed there, that may be your problem.
I thought about unplugging the radio, but what doesnt seem to make sense is the power comes off of the "key on" wire which I wouldn't think cause any problems. I got it installed by a reputable Hi Fi store in Bellevue WA so it isn't what I would consider a hack job like you may get at some nationwide electronics store. Hopefully somebody may have other ideas...
Start by spraying a liberal dose of WD40 into the latch mechanism on the doors. See if that solves the door adjar light and the dome light problems... it may also solve the radio shutting off problem. The computer doesn't know when the door opens because it doesn't think it was closed. Sounds like all the problems but the headlights could be tied to the door switches.

WD-40 in the latches is Matt's FAVORITE recommendation... from now on, he intends on posting it to every thread.
Seriously, though, your problems are indicative of Matt's diagnosis -- very insightful on Matt's part! My addition to this: spray the **** out of it with compressed air before you load-up on the WD-40. If compressed doesn't free the mechanism & clean things up, then go WD. You need to cycle the handle a few times before the results are noticeable. Won't be surprised if it's the sensor in the latch area that's causing the problems!
Oh yeah, opening the passenger door also doesn't do anything. Dome light doesn't come on nor does the radio turn off. So I've ruled out door sensor. I'm thinking switch or timer relay. The question is why and which one? Or how can I tell?

If the door thinks it's open when it is actually closed, the dome light will indeed NOT come on. It will have eventually turned off because the truck is programmed to turn the light off to prevent draining the battery because someone forgot to close the door. When you open the door, it won't realize that you have done so because it thinks it has never been closed.
Although the diagnosis made by Matt might be incorrect, a shot of WD-40 is a quick & painless 1st attempt before ruling it out. Try it in both latches (driver & passenger) before you discount it. If it doesn't work, at least you've got nothing to lose & didn't expend much effort, if any at all. And you can come back here and poke fun at us for the WD-40 panacea!
Yea, what Haroutd said... except the part about pissin' on it. I am not sure that will help. Give it a shot. Your right Haroutd, I think I will add it to my sig.
Oh alright... I was just hoping the cure would involve duct tape instead of WD-40. I got a pile o duct tape for my christmas present a few years back and I'm still trying to use it all up.
I'll let you know if WD 40 killed the gremlins on monday, I don't have any around here, I have to do it this weekend. Stay tuned for more action here on Superduty forum.

Don't have any WD-40? Poor deprived guy -- I thought that was one of the basics of life -- right next to food, shelter, and sex. I've probably got about half a dozen bottles of it floating around in the garage, my truck, tool boxes... if you were nearby I'd offer you some. In any case, let us know how it goes. The nervous tension has caused Matt to suffer from sleep apnia, his right arm now twitches uncontrolably, and he's been heard talking to himself about lubricants & door hinges. I think he's being fitted for a straight jacket this afternoon.
