p0012 code on newly rebuilt engine

p0012 code on newly rebuilt engine

04 lariat 5.4l was just rebuilt. idles rough at stoplights and p0012 comes up. I think the mechanic may have valve timing off? A high output oil pump was installed when engine was rebuilt. Could this be causing the code.

engine may be mis-timed or bank one vct solenoid may be stuck.

Could this have anything to do with the high output oil pump?

unlikely as oil flow to the phasers is controlled by the solenoids.

The vct solynoids are new so Im going to check the valve timing.
Is there a esier way to check this than to remove the timing cover?

best thing to do is remove timing cover since incorrect timing is suspected.

another possible cause is that the phaser locating dowel is sheared off or missing. were the phasers replaced or removed?

Were the timing chain tensioners replaced? I've heard of a few issues with those.

You say the engine was rebuilt. Were the cylinder heads replaced? Damaged cam journals are the most common problem with this engine. Loss of oil pressure from worn journals will cause cam timing problems due to excessive oil pressure loss in the cylinder head.

Yes the heads,cams,vct solidiods,camphasers,.have all been replaced.
I have another question. I bought a scanner to retrieve the codes. My mechanic lives over 100 miles away. The first time the engine started running rough at a stop light was about 75 miles after the rebuild. Iwas on my way home from my mechanics. Istepped on the accelerator a little and it came right out of it. The next day the service engine light came on. I pulled the codes they were p0022,p0340,and p0345. At this point the camposition sensers were the only thing that was not replaced. So I replaced them. This didnt seem to affect the way it ran at a stoplight but it brings up codes p0012 sometimes and p0022 sometimes.
My question is could this be a computer problem?
Any input would be very appreciated,

unlikely the computer is the problem. Sound like a hot oil pressure issue. Recommend oil pressure test at hot idle. 25 psi minimum to operate vct system.

Did you ever figure out this problem. I rebuilt my engine and got a P0012
