When it rains it pours!
Last week my back window stops going down all the way, I take the tailgate apart, clean and grease everything, the window is fine.
The next day I am closing the spare tire, the wind grabs it, slams it into the tailgate, I hear a big "BANG", the window survived, but the torsion bar didn't. So I go to take the torsion bar off, the two bolts on the bracket break half way out.
To top it all off, I hit the brakes this morning, pedal to the floor. My main steel line from the front to the rear has a rusted hole in it. I go to pull the line, it won't seperate at the one junction in the line, I had to pull it from the hydraulic pump at the very front of the truck ALL the way back to frame at the rear. So what is my point, nothing really, just want to vent to those of you who can understand the joys of maintaining our Broncos!

One of the rivets that hold the back window glass to the frame broke, and so the window was going down crooked. So, I open the thing up, and work a little zip-tie magic to fix the thing.
While I am in there, I decide that I am just going to cut the torsion bar, because it had broken loose and was causing resistance when trying to close the tailgate. (The resistance was against the glass, by the way.)
So, I put the window up enough that it will clear the torsion bar, but still be able to close the tailgate. I am going drive to go to get a hacksaw to finish the job. Sure enough, a few seconds after I closed the tailgate - BAM - and my rear window shatters!!
For the life of me, I don't know how the torsion bar could have even hit the window, but it sure managed to do exactly the damage I was trying to prevent it from ever doing.
Of couse, it has been raining more in the last week than it has all year! Breathing exhaust fumes isn't doing me any good either.
Then, just after the window broke, the Bronco decided it would be fun to start overheating. I'm still trying to track that problem to a good resolution.
I like driving a Bronco, but I'm beginning to hate this particular Bronco. I drove around in a Camry earlier today, and realize now how much space and caution people tend to give me when in the Bronco. It's kind of nice, but I'm not sure the maintenance costs are worth it.
I say that as I am heading outside to run new brake lines, and as long as I'm down there change the fuel filter. My favorite part was that I called a local shop because I wanted to be lazy and their estimate was "A couple hundred bucks". I bought all the line, fittings, new brake fluid, a tubing bender, AND the fuel filter for $35. Nice labor charge huh?
Off I go to run brake line so I can make my wife help bleed the brakes when she gets home!
