Yeah, it got me too. I managed to kill it, but my favorites folder, my desktop, and my START menu are blank and I can't figure out how to get them back. It really stinks because I just got this bucket running right again after it sneezed a hard drive. I'd really rather just USE it and not have to WORK on it! That's what the truck is for.
I'm not sure if this would work for you but you could try to do a system restore by picking an earlier date.......( in 'My Computer' at the Start button)
It happened to me also but AVG FREE 2012 blocked it. I left FTE and came back on FTE about 10 minutes later and what ever it was, is now gone. No damage to the computer. chuck
I'm on IE too and it disabled my AVG 2012 paid edition. You guys have better computer skills than I do, and this thing was at the "exorcist" for over a week because of it. The shop did install that Malwarebytes program and a Spybots program, so hope that helps. Stu
I like and use Avira Antivirus program. It's free to use as long as you don't mind clicking off an occasional splash screen (try downloading it from Product reviews and prices, software downloads, and tech news - CNET, all their download links are checked for malware) updates automatically almost daily, and checks both internet pages and emails for malware on the fly.
That particular type trojan is especially difficult to deal with. I've had to remove it from my sister's laptop 3 times so far.
as a continuance of my streak of crappy luck , i was on the site yesterday at 1:15 p.m. and my laptop crashed ............ well it seems that somehow i picked up some companies computor repair / anti virus crap from here and it sent it into spazzomatic attack . so beware as i would've assumed this place was a safe harbor !!!!!!!!!!!
Hackers/crackers are continually trying to put "malware" on popular sites....
Email virus's have almost become extinct since email providers started virus-scanning emails before users get them........
Now the lions-share of virus's are on music/file sharing sites, **** sites AND other poorly (and even well) protected websites.
I have Microshaft Winblows 7 on my laptop..... but because I never let it go on the internet I never have a problem!!
Put any flavor of Linux on your laptop and use Firefox, you won't have any problems on any site! (stay away from Russian **** though)
I didn't pick up anything AFAIK, but I logged in yesterday and when I did, it kept taking me to the bottom of the page. I didn't know what was going on so I just logged out and did something else. I wonder?
Several months ago, USA Today had an article that recommended NOT using IE at all.
They were of course talking about earlier versions....... the newest version is safer.
Most people do not upgrade to the newest version (most people do not even know what a browser is!)
The main problem with IE running on WIndows XP, is that since most people operate their computer with administrative privileges (logged in with NON-limited user account) , AND I.E. is tightly integrated with the operating system, malware has far more direct contact with the operating system.
MS has tightened this stuff up in recent years, but it didn't get "better" until Vista and "7".
This is one of the reasons that WinXP is so vulnerable and the MAC (that's a truck, right?) Linux/Unix/BSD do NOT have this problem!!
MAC, UNIX/Linux (regular) users NEVER, NEVER, NEVER (need to) log in as Administrative (aka "root") users so browsers running in their account DO NOT have access to administrative "stuff".
Firefox and Chrome are still considered "better" and safer browsers.
Recently, I think even Chrome got a better security rating. It's still a moving target.
I still prefer Firefox over Chrome......... But Chrome is outstanding.....
Just 10 minutes ago some stupid trojan file was trying to down load....it was called 'exploit.swf ' it is a malware, very dangerous, it comes off the net disguised as one of the popular anti virus programs like Kaspersky, McAfee, and Sophos...you have to be very careful and not click on it. Funny thing is my Kaspersky did catch it and get rid of it.

Yeah. It's only "Dangerous if you're running Windows......
The "Malware" writers always seem to be a few minutes ahead of the Anti-virus writers......
No problems from this site for quite some time
running IE 8 - Malwarebites pro - Microsoft Security Essentials - Windows firewall
EDIT: I have had several of those out of nowhere hits like described above, one got thru and did as described above - I disconnected from the internet, went to safemode and ran the malware/spyware software and the turned up the turd that had been dropped on me - I deleated those and did a beep scan whick for me is just shy of 5 hrs. - The I connected the internet - updated my protection and ran another deep scan. - It's a real pain in the butt - Two years ago one got me that ate the hard drive - I had the Geek dudes remove the virus as much as the could but there was still a problem and I couldn't use the hard drive as it was - I got a new machine and i've been recovering files from the old one in bunches by useing a file recovery tool, cdr's, a remote hard drive and a third computer for cleaning the recovered files so far (2 yrs) I have reclaimed about 2 gig of files - Did I say all the file names were lost - If I could get my hands on just one hacker at least half of them would quit when they saw what I did to the one.
And for those of you that do NOT use ADBLOCK Plus or other ad-blocking add-ons for Firefox or IE (if it's even available), "Hackers & Crackers" try to write malware for advertisements.
So, in general, blocking advertisements, (in general) can reduce your exposure to malware...........
Yup. My work pc got hit yesterday as I was logging in around 12 noon. This is not the only place it turned up either as someone else got hacked via another site.
