I just changed my oil, since i just bought it. I used 15w40 and now have a rough start since it is cold here in FL the last few days. i have always used 5w40 synthetic rotela T in my 01 7.3. with that said is there a oil additive i can add to help with cold starts until i get to my next oil change which WILL be 5w40 R-T synthetic? im sure this is the issue since it did not do this befor the oil change. i hear REV-X but its $$$ i can just do another oil chang for that price.haha any other oil additives ? it is in the 06 6.0. thanks
i had it changed and asked for OEM so who knows right!!! 06 block heater is that lokated in the passenger side bumper? I have only had the truck a week ish. thanks for the help.
Yes passenger side bumper there should be a plug in that looks like an extention cord. Some people put it on a timer to turn on like an hour or so before they go to work in the mornings to help save on electricity. How cold is it when your getting these cold starts?
It's really annoying to find if you don't know what you're looking for. Look behind the passenger side fog lamp, and fiddle iwth your hand. I could never find it, until I went to the engine where it plugs in, found hte orange wire, and followed it to the front. Even now I still get caught up trying to find the damned thing from time to time.
is there a part number for the cord? im at work. just in case i dont have one installed. i am from michigan and plan on going back after retirement and will for sure need it anyhew .
I'm curious what cold is in FL I dident think it got cold enough there to cause hard starts that is why I asked about the filter also cap. If its an early 04 and they put a new cap and filter in. It might be a bit short. This happened to me at a jiffy lube. You might want to check if the wrong oil filter is used it can allow oil that is not filtered to run through the motor. It also would not be depressing the drain back valve down all the way and allowing all the oil in the filter housing to drain back into the crank case every time you shut it off. This is what I have gathered from all the oil filter talk on here can anyone confirm?
just got home and of course there is no cord installed... i know its Florida but..driving home tonight and the bank sign says 34 right now !!! my truck says the same as the sign. its an 06 by the way.. ill be ordering my EGR delete kit later today when i get up. then a heater cord i guess haha.. thanks for the help fellas.
Might want to check your FICM readings. Just might have gotten cold enough to have it's ugly head pop up. Since you are looking at doing some work in there, might as well make sure it's working right.
getting ready to go to work and she started with no roughness at all. im pretty sure its the oil (15w40 vs 5w40) but like you said since i'm going to be in there doing the EGR Delete should i just re solder those spots on the FICM? thanks
