i am installing a 460 in my 1977 f250 4wd.i need to know if a can use a 390 flywheel, and clucth, and use the same bell houseing thanks for any info..

 

What year 460 ?

1979 and later 460's are externally balanced .

390 Bell housing is a no , different bolt pattern , your topic says 400 to 460 ? 1977 didn't have a 390 FE option .

 

Just check to see if there is a counterweight behind the balancer. If so then the 360/390 flywheel won't work.
If no counterweight then you can use the 360/390 flywheel and clutch (or even the 400 I think) and then use the 400 bellhousing on the 460.

 

the 390 is internally ballanced 410 and 428 (in the FE famialy) are to the best of my knowledge the only externally ballanced engines
