Is it possible to install an hour meter on a 2004 V-10. It's been warm this winter but with gas prices what they are I'm starting to realize 2 things : idling consumes a lot of 87 octane AND my gas mileage goes to heck in the winter, because of idling (and 4x4 plowing and extra weight and..........., lol
Anybody have a rough idea how much fuel is consumed from idling per hour?
2004 6.8L V-10
Oh and I live in Maine so anything above 0 degrees is warm Nov. - May.
I know with the crown vic squad cars Ford justify's one hour idling equal to 32-35 mph of driving. My math is terrible but I know those cars got about 14 city I would guess near 3.5-4 gal and hour but we have V10's so id imagine maybe 4.5- 5 gal an hour?

My mileage is all over the place this winter (probably because I'm paying attention, lol) Been avg 6-7 plowing, short trips, then the past week while hauling my construction trailer 70 miles round trip back up to 10-11 with hubs locked in but in 2wd.
I bought the V-10 to work and it's never failed me and since it's just outside, I hope she can't hear me (complaining) which I'm not, lol

It would be much lower than that. I believe the 7.3 consumes about .8/hr idling. So I would guess the V10 to be in that ballpark.
