Hey guys, I'm thinking about getting an 04 with a V10. I just might be stepping up from my Crown Victoria.
I was wondering what kind of gas mileage you guys are getting? and are there any tips such as a certain RAR to get for better gas mileage with this engine? Both highway and street driving so I thought LSD 3.73 would do just fine. But I'm open to suggestions.
I read the thread about how much you guys like your V10's and I'm very happy to hear it, it's reassuring. Since this is my first post here and I'm a newbie, it is nice to meet all of you
Any info whatsover, I'm new to the V10, dish it out!
I look forward to your replies

I guess you need to ask yourself how you are going to use the V10. You can only get the V10 for a F250 and up plus the Excursion. A V10 is a work engine trailer towing, heavy loads etc. etc. I have both a V10 F250 and a 5.4L Expedition, I pull with the V10 and everyday driving with the expedition.
The 5.4l is a lot quieter engine. Sometimes you can hardly tell it is running. The V10 I always know it is running, but I only use it for work.
11 to 12 mpg with the V10 unloaded, loaded with a 8000# trailer 7.5 to 8.5mpg.
14 to 15mpg in town, 16 to 18mpg on the road unloaded. Pulling a small 4000# trailer 10 to 11mpg.
The V10 is a powerful engine with a hefty thirst. I have 3.73 gears and if you are not towing, is fine. I drive 55 miles round trip to work with about half of that on the highway. I turn about 1800 RPM at 65 mph. I fill up every 4-5 days. Around 11 to 12 mpg is the maximum you can expect. It a dependable engine with a great amount of torque for a gasoline engine. I have put on 19K so far and no problems other that slight cold piston slap that a synthetic oil cured. One thing though.....a crown vic to a super duty...........huge difference...super duties are a REAL TRUCK they ride very stiff....not the cloud ride you are used to.
