Hello all, I just bought my first expy and had some ??'s about it. First of all, does an LSD come stock from factory. Mine is a 00 XLT with the 5.4ltr in it. Power seems great. Wish it was the Navi motor but thats OK. Is there an optional factory subwoofer and amp avail. If so, where from? What are some of the better lift kit companys and lift kits? Whats the boggest size tire I can fit on the stock 16 x 7 rim without rubbing. Pics??
Thanks alot.
Ciph
So far I like it just wish it breathed alil better
Cipher, your Expy with the 5.4 in it has the same motor as the Navigator. They are the exact same vehicle with diffrent trim options and nose trim and tail trim. Is it a 4x4? If it is, you should be able to fit almost a 33 in tire on it at stock height. As far as lifts go....Fabtech makes a great lift for the Expy's. Pretty complete kit, but a little costly. There is a subwoffer for the Expy, The Eddie Bauer has it stock on the MACH sound system. Go to crutchfield.com and check them out there. They have built in Amps and go in the rear side panel on the passengers side. MTX makes thunderform boxes that will fit in it nicely also. You mentioned that you wish it could breathe better..... Install an aftermarket air intake kit on it, such as K&N, Airraid, or make your own and save $200, then go buy your sub, and have the best of both worlds! Hope this helps!
Not sure how to tell. It has the A4WD, 4HI and 4LO so im not sure if it is a 4 x 4 or a 4 x 2. Will the 4v heads of the Navi motor fit on the expy's motor? Can you guys give me some websites for aftermarket items for my truck. Thanks.
With the switch you mentioned, it is definitley a 4x4 model, BUT since you failed to recognize that it is a 4x4 model before you bought it, make sure you read the manual WELL before attempting to use 4 wheel drive..
Example You dont use 4lo fro driving on snowy roads at 70 mph, you dont use 4hi for trying to pull 3 tons of rock in a trailer up out of the creek, etc...

Which tranny do I have the beefier one (I forget the model) or the smaller one??
CIPH, it should have the E4od in it. As far as the Limited slip, if you crawl under the rear, and look on the tag on the differential it will tell you if it has LS dif or not. AS far as the 4 valve heads, I wouldn't bother putting them on. Ther are plenty of modifications that you can do to the 5.4 to make it perform! Also check out the store here at FTE, they have some great mods! Summitracing has some also. There are a bunch more, do a general search for aftermarket ford parts, it should turn up a bunch!

Is that the good one or the bad one?

Will do

What is the best air intake system? K&N?, others???
Cph, Your gonna open a can of worms on that question! they all basically do the same thing, that is they open up the restriction in the air intake system. If you look at your stock air box, it is about 10" in diameter, it then restricts down to about 2" where it goes throught the fender! I personally couldn't justify spending $200 + to get the intake system, so I looked at an aftermarket kit and made my own. If you do a search for poormans FIPK you will find this mod. I have done it, It does make a difference! The only alteration I did was that I left the tube going through the fenderwell, so it can still get cooler air from outside, as well as inside the engine compartment! Then take the $150 that your gonna save and put it towards another mod! Maybe an exhaust system or the sub that you asked about! Good luck!
The "A4WD" switch setting is not full-time 4-wheel drive, but rather drives one rear wheel and one front wheel on opposite sides, and transfers power to the other wheels automatically when slippage occurs. My '98 has a 2-wheel drive switch setting, which I normally use day to day (this eliminates the slight vibration from the front transfer case). I switch to A4WD when its raining or snowing. 4HI and 4LO are reserved for the deep stuff.
As an '00 4x4 with a 5.4, your transmission is called 4R100, a cousin to E4OD. This trans was also used on 5.4 engined F-250 pickups. The 4.6 engined Expeditions make due with a lighter transmission called a 4R70W, a.k.a. the Crown Victoria transmission. As of 2003 ALL Expeditions have the 4R70W.
LSD was an option on all 1997-2002 Expeditions, regardless of other drivetrain elements. Not standard equipment.
Good luck with your new vehicle. I have 63,000 on mine and don't want to even think of selling it.
