The other night I test drove the new Escalade. All I can say it is WOW very nice truck. It made me think about trading my Expy ?
Dont get me wrong I love my truck and I hate those chebys/gmc.
Also the Escalade is very expensive 53g. The dealer had
22inch rims on this Escalade with 305/45/22 tires for an extra 5g
But unless Ford starts building the Thunder or adding much much more
hp to there trucks I am leaning towards the Escalade.
It has 345hp and 380 trq stock. Not even a SUPERCHARGED EXPY
has thoses numbers. The Caddy is also doing high 14 in 1/4 mile
and that stock from factory.
Okay so maybe a supercharged Expy will pull close to a stock Escalade, but what happends if the Escalade it also supercharge ?
Tell me what you Expy owner think? Please tell me I am doing the
wrong thing in trading my Expy.
Should I just wait to 2003 for a more powerful EXPY ?
Not bashing here, but I cannot make myself like the exterior of the Escalade. I think they made it look too much like a Cadillac car. I understand carrying over the lineage and looks, but I think they could have given it more of a unique look. As far as HP goes, I am sure for the ~15k - 20k difference in price you could stomp those performance numbers in the ground with the aftermarket world, saving a few bucks and keeping the truck we have all come to be so happy with. I don't know if I could spend 53k on a vehicle and feel as guiltless as I do when I run through the woods or mountains with it. Just an opinion, and I know we all have them
Greg's got it here. IMHO, Cadillac is WAAAAAAAAY off base with its Art&Science styling. It just plain looks like crap. And for $15k, you ought to be able to do an engine swap, plopping in a Ford V-10 turbo diesel with enough aftermarket stuff on it to pull 6 Escalades backwards, up hill on a sheet of ice thru the woods in a snow storm. Sure you won't beat it to 60 mph. But that would be about it. Let's face it, the Escalade is a gussied-up Yukon for the idle rich. No more likely to see a spec of wet pavement than it is a dirt road or a load from Home Depot, let alone any more snow than what is on the road to Breckenridge.
Call me silly, but, aren't both of these things called "trucks"? Personally, who cares what the 0-60 time is, I ask what can they haul. I just don't see someone buying an Escalade to haul a 6,000 pound trailer, or like what was mentioned, taking it out 4x4ing. Personally, I watch the torque numbers as that is what gives you the grunt off the line, not horsepower (hp is for maintaining speed, torque gets you changing speed-big misconception that a lot of people have). I personally have loaded a ton (literally) of 1 man rock into the back of my X (yes, I know it "overloaded" the truck), but, it handled it just fine. Can you see someone doing that with an Escalade?
Personally speaking, if you want the performance, go with a Volvo (still Ford as I recall) stationwagon S70, about the same person hauling ability, much better 0-60 times and it is still not something that everyone has.
But if you are dead set of having a truck, I would stick with the X, take that $15K and look into aftermarket stuff. For $15K, you can easily get 500 hp (supercharger, larger fuel injectors, upgraded fuel pump, 4.11 gears, dual exhaust, superchip-all for about $7K, still gives you $8K for a really nice entertainment system). WIth 500 hp, you can smoke all 4 tires off the line (can the Escalade do that?)
