Very nice I love it when people pick these things up I'm surrounded by people who wouldn't dream of buying an older car or truck. I think you got a nice truck
My apologies! I suppose I need to give a little more information. I feel a bit like a little kid though. The wife says I am way too excited over a truck.
Lets see.... plans. I have lots of plans for this truck, but in the immediate future it needs some minor tweaks like putting the gauge cluster back in and replacing the ignition switch. There is a linkage around the carburetor that is tied back that I am sure I should find out what it goes to, but really the major thing right now is just a good once over to make sure it really is operational and start driving this beast.
The one thing I have noticed and it is nagging at me is that it is a 73 according to the door sticker, but the front grill assembly seems to be from a later model (late 70s I think), so once the truck is running well, I am going to see about putting that back to what was originally.
According to the VIN decoders it says I should be looking at a 390 cid engine. Can I verify this online somewhere by the engine stamp or are there any ways I can tell just by visual inspection? This is the first Ford I have owned so I am still learning.
Other than little issues, she's a beaut and I am looking forward to getting her back on the road. I have already found so much info on here and look forward to chatting with you guys in the very near future!
Yeah its got the 78-79 grill. It should have split inserts with round headlamps if its a 73. Might of got smacked like mine and it was cheaper to put those parts in. Check the core support good for damage.

Awesome!! Thanks for the info. I will have to look into that. Are the grills usually pretty cheap to replace?
You will have to make sure you have the correct core support, I have the same problem. The round headlamps sit lower in the grill. You will need the brackets and the round buckets, unless your the kind of guy that can fab them up.
To find out if you have a 390, take a spark plug out of the cylinder of your choosing although the front two make sense, and measure the stroke while turning the crank with a breaker bar or somethin equivalent. If it measures 3.75"(3.78") then you have a 390. Chances are though that you still might have a 360 with a 3.50" stroke.
Also I actually like the paint job on that it's different.
