Tastes like coolant...

Hi gang, new guy here. Be gentle with me.

e99 f350 7.3 4x drw.

I have coolant running down the backside of the pass side fender liner. Tastes like coolant, I'm guessing from location it's the heater core.

Is this a job to handle in an afternoon? PITA? Easy? Screw it hire a wrench? I have limited space at a rented garage to work in the alley, I need to be able to get it done in 4-5 hours.

If I wanted to cheap out, can/should I use a pour in type of leak stop?
If so, what brand and put it in where? I've had the truck for a week and (laugh here) can't find what looks like a normal rad. cap?

Gracias!

Avoid the stop leak stuff....It will cause you more issues than it fixes.

I cannot answer the rest of your questions but someone else will be around.

Do you smell coolant in the cab when you run the heat?

No, even with my nose down on the passenger floor, that's usually the trouble spot.

I'm not familiar with these trucks so...

The overflow from the degas bottle will be on the passenger's side of the engine compartment. Have you pressure tested the system or the cap. Also the inspect the heater hoses which run on the passenger's side valve cover too to make sure they are not "spraying" on that side.

Did a quick visual under the hood but haven't really crawled in there yet. Degas? Excuse my ignorance... it's all new to me.

Overflow bottle? Although that's not really what it is. It is to de-gas or vent the system.

Basically remove glove box, blend door actuator, all the screws to access the core, unclip the quick disconnect hoses, remove old core, replace with new. I would think you could replace it within a couple hours, and that seems like plenty of time, for the "new" to you.

I just learned something already, it's an "inside" job. Wouldn't have guessed that. Sounds like check the hoses first, then dig in...

Thanks for all the fast responses. This is an amazing forum. Pretty cool trucks too!

If you're sure your leak isn't under the hood then it sounds like you are on the right track. The degas bottles are known to split which would leak on the inside fender well.

The degas is up front , this leak is draining behind the wheel, running out between the fenderliner and fender, where a mudflap would hang.

Hope it's only a hose!
