Okay, so now that I have the truck, I need W2W step bars. I have narrowed it down to two choices (see pics below):
(1) Luverne O-Mega W2W step, aluminum
(2) ICI W2W step bars, stainless steel
Which ones would you get? I am absolutely torn between those two. I will probably get whatever you guys vote for the most.
I personally like the Luvernes, since they're flat. That lets you step up on them more easily in other areas - think washing the roof or the front glass.
The IcI is mounted to a GM but if the mounting bracket is indicative of how it will sit on your Ford, then I would choose that one. One of the issues with the new factory steps is they sit too close to the rocker panel and they offer very little assistance with ingress / egress.
I'm a fan of stainless steel, its a bit heavier but might be stronger, my westin platinums are rock solid, even with 300+lbs bouncing on them. When i bought mine, westin did not have a tank long enough to chrome the w2ws so I bought a wheel step (I should have waited lol). If choosing between the 2 you mentioned I would get the one with the strongest brackets/rating.
The problem I see with most of the W2W bars is how they mount. Most of them float that bed portion out there with no mount or support past the rear door. I'd look at the mounting points of both. If only one had a mount back by the bed portion, I would go with that one. If they both do, I would get the stainless.
Both look great. I personally would opt for the ICI because of the third tread pad to help me reach into the bed, but I am somewhat vertically challenged.
Both are about the same price, a little over $400.
I have decided to go with the ICI's, but unfortunately they are currently on backorder everywhere. It will take until sometime in March, I think, before I can get them.
