I was just driving home and my cel came on, I swung by auto zone and they pulled p0059 but it was not in their system. I did a google search and it mentioned the upper o2 sensor on the drivers side. So I took a look, I am on the mobile version so I dont know how to post a pic but I see what looks like the shifter linkage coming out of the floor board over to the tranny. The wires for the o2 sensor look like they are melted into the heat warp on the shifter linkage. Does this sound like it could be the problem? I don't see a way to get the o2 wires away from that shifter linkage and preventing it from happening again. They are almost right on top of each other.
Regardless a new sensor at auto zone is $50, out should I stick with ford? Also how hard is this to change out? There is not much room up there at all, and I can't even see the other end of the wire and where it connects to. I will try to figure out if I can post a pic to..
I have my sig filled out maybe out did not post since I am on the mobile version. Sorry about that, it's a 2005 f250 v10 4x4 auto with 66k on the clock.
I would be careful as to what brand O2 sensor you use. My '01 had NTK sensors in it stock, so that's what I replaced them with from Napa.
Don't use Bosch, unless it's already a Bosch. Remove the original, check the markings on it, should be a brand-name somewhere, and try to get the exact same thing.
Not sure what Ford would charge, but it's worth a phone call.
There has to be a way to get that shifter cable away from that O2 sensor...
So it just went away, it was the weirdest thing ever, the CEL is gone and its running like normal again. I am not going to complain but I will keep my eye on it.
The first day the CEL was on and off and couldnt make up its mind, the 2 days of solid on, then 1 more day of on and off, not its been off for 3 days now
Cant complain about getting to save money, or maybe the CEL burned out haha!
Could this be a fuel issue? I thought that I had read somewhere along the journey that o2 sensors can be effected by the fuel. Might try topping off the tank with some 91 octane. Someone else might chime in with clearer logic on this.
Maybe you have an obstruction in the intake of the O2 sensor? I just read an article from Rock Auto that an O2 sensor measures the O2 concentration difference between the exhaust and the outside air. If the inlet is clogged, it fouls up the reading and triggers the CEL.
Inlets are typically near the wires or connector. Not sure if that's the problem, but it's worth a look. You also have some burning from the cable, so maybe some soot built up?
Here is a link to that article. Scroll down to where it talks about O2 sensors.
