the ONLY way to know is to WEIGH your truck, loaded with all the stuff you normally carry when you would be going camping, that includes people and pets . then take that number and subtract it from you GCWR. that tells you what the MAX loaded weight of RV you can tow. then you can begin to look at individual axle ratings and payload. dry weights on RV's are kind of a SWAG. once you start adding propane, food, gotta haves, wanta haves, toys, kids stuff, etc, you can add a TON of weight. probably closer to 2 tons.
that's why I drive a 550. its rated at 30k CGWR. the truck loaded tips the scales at 11,200. my 5th wheel rolls over at 18.5K I'm under my weight limits and nowhere near my axle limits. But would I be happier if the whole thing was 2000 lbs lighter? hell yes. weight costs money, not only in fuel but maintenance.
go to the scales and get your numbers, then you can make an informed choice.
i am going to wait untill they have a good one in georgetown that i can look at. thanks again for all the great info. and somthing a little smaller as well.
