i'll probably replace spark plugs this weekend. what would u sugges for a 5.0 that has 175K on it? im NOT made out of money. so im saying "best for the buck" with maybe a lil more performance than your normal spark plug. what do ya'll think i'll like?
Try those Bosch spark plugs that come wih 1, 2, 3, or 4 (pins) (Idon't know what they are called) on th eend of the spark plug. They are only $2.50- $4.00 Apiece. You coul also put new plug wires on the truck. i did it to mine man what a performance increase!!!
I think the above post is talking about Bosch Platnum +2 and +4. They do smooth the idle, but your going to pay $2.99/each and $4.99/each for the +2 and +4.
I would suggest autolite or motorcraft. I've ran a few of the other makes and returned to find better results. You can buy the autolites at walmart for $1.98/2 pack.
I've had Bosch Platnum +4 and there complete Garbage, After installing the plugs my truck was never the same, i also heard from alot of my friends with Mustang 302s and F150 302s that they had the same problem of Loss of power and poor fuel mileage, In all honesty i would stay away from these plugs, I have Champion Copper Plus and they are great for the money, also Motorcraft (AUTOLITE) Plugs are good. The Most expensive doesnt always mean the best too.
Hope this helps.
The only thing you'll get out of putting "performance" plugs in a stock 302 is a larger hole in your wallet. Perceived performance enhancement from installing the more expensive plugs is about 99% due to just having new plugs. You'll get the same effect for far less cash by sticking with standard copper Autolites or Motorcrafts, or whatever brand you happen to favor. Autolites are generally the cheapest and most popular. Also, as another user stated, new plug wires wouldn't hurt either. Particularly if the current ones are original
Why does the myth persist that Autolites are the same as Motorcraft? They are NOT! They are made by the same company that makes the junk Fram oil filters. They work fine for a while, like any new plug will, but they do not last long. I had a set of Autolite platinums burn up in less mileage than standard Motorcrafts. I now use Bosch single $2 platinums, not the fancy "+ whatever" ones.
