Any body know about vacuum pumps? I found one on e-bay cheap for 7.3L powerstroke, seller lists it as for 96-02 Eonoline series.
Under compatibility when I type in my 97 F250 it comes up not compatible, Is there a difference between the 2 truck applications.
I need this part and don't want to pass on it if I can use it.
I tried looking the part no. up on the ford site to compare nos. but no luck finding it on ford parts on line,
Tryed compareing on Auto zone site but they don't list diesel Econolines, the E-bay picture looks like the one on my truck minues the pulley.
I assume I need one, I checked it with gauge at idle and only pulling 5 on the vacuum test gauge. Was informed it should be pulling between 17 and 21.
Is the price really that much of a difference with shipping that you wouldn't just go to the store and get a warranty with a product that you wouldn't get on ebay?
$90.00 OEM with free shipping as opposed to $149.00, after market brand, thats $60.00 difference.
Is this from a seller called Accurate Diesel, by any chance? If so, just go directly to their site, www.AccurateDiesel.com - Accurate Technical Services, LLC . Same prices, and they'll have one for your particular year and model. There are subtle differences between the truck and van pumps, and from year to year. Not sure what, exactly. They claim it's an OEM pump, and since there's no core, it's a new pump, not a reman.
I believe that post '96 is an electric pump, whereas up to 95 it is belt-driven.
I have a '93 7.3td and mine is belt-driven. I am having a nasty time pulling the old vac pump off. I bought/borrowed the autozone tool kit 27001 and it does not exactly do the job. I's a roal PITA.
Found a recommendation on the net somewhere saying that the autozone tool is the exact thing, but that is a LIE. Bought a reman pump at NAPA AUTO PARTS for $123 with $20 core charge.
I could live with $103 if it works out.. With the belt-driven pre-96 pump, you have to pull the pulley first before you can get at three 10mm bolts that hold the pump onto its mount. I think that the 'engineers' who come up with such arrangements should be sentenced to perpetuity of trying to pull a pulley until they learn to design trucks for easier maintenance.. NAPA has a puller that looks better suited for this than the autozon eone (see websites), but it's special order and over $180!!!! Screw that. - that's unamerican imo.
Is that a 'powerstroke' or IDI (mechanical IP)? I was guessing that the '97 and up are different based on other info I found on the web when I was trying to find out how to swap the pump and what tool people use. My old '94 IDI crew 4x4 (jolly green giant - RIP 8/15/10, Ridgeley, MD) has a mechanical belt-driven setup as does the current truck ('93 7.3td 4x4 crew - Gr8White)
