I put Napa ceramics on the front and don't have to deal with brake dust turning my front wheels black anymore and the truck stops on a dime. On the rears I went with ford oem. Very happy. Currently have 75k on the fronts and currently at 1/2 pad.

I've used OEM parts on mine.

Fronts-
Replaced the pads one time.
Replaced the rotors and pads another time.

Backs-
Replaced the pads one time.

Currently getting close to 300,000 miles ! Gotta love the 6 speed's engine braking ability.

well, I have three turned rotors on the truck that have given me no trouble at all. The rear one has been running for over a year, and the fronts have been over 6 months. No pulsations or warpage yet.

Also, I have been purchasing the Napa premium rotors, and they have been just fine. One of them has been turned once, and the other has not. Both of these are on the rear and have a total of about 40-50,000 miles on them.

Does anyone know the proper diameter of the front rotors? Orileys has two sizes listed:

13.03 Inch
14.53 Inch

I am not familiar with these rotors or pads as I did not put them on the PO did (or are OE). The PO did use the truck as a tow vehicle for his travel trailer. I figure might as well put some new rotors on so I will know the history.

I'm looking at the BrakeBest rotors from orileys

Good info. I know a very few that have good luck with turning rotors. Sounds like you have a good machinist in your area.

Should be 13.03"
Here is the tech sheet for 2001. (Sorry, I don't have one for 2002...)

Agree 100%. Driving style is a major factor.
I think I am pretty good with my equipment as well. My wife is another matter entirely. She is super hard on stuff, hence the PS rotors and Hawk pads. Sometimes it's easier to change the parts then change the driver.

I think the 14" are for the duallies, get the 13" I did mine not long ago, takes 2 hours to do all 4 wheels, pads and rotors....just be ready to whack the rotors to get them off...i had to hammer in some wood wedges and rap on the thing with a small mallet to get them to pop off.....new england though

I just took my rotors off not too long ago to work on something else. They were stuck pretty good but they're loose now.

What are the opinions of rotors vs rotors/hub assemblies.

I would only replace what you need. The only thing I have found good deals on is loaded calipers. Often times you can get a loaded caliper as cheap as pads or just the caliper. Of course the pads are probably lower quality, but usually I am doing the work for someone else and they want low cost anyway.

If anyone needs 2002 Specifications I bought the '02 Specifications OEM book. I pulled all the data from it for the Super Duties and put it on my site.

Here is just the front brake information:

Brake System

Lining Wear Limit (above backing plate or rivets): 0.039")

Front Disc Brake
Rotor Thickness: 1.51"
Rotor Minimum Thickness: 1.417"
Rotor Runout (max): 0.0015" (SRW/DRW 4x4), 0.0028" (DRW 4x2), 0.0020" (SRW 4x2)

The full list is here: 2002 Super Duty Specifications

.

Thanks. I have slide pins in my garage ready to go in. The updated Ford ones. It was definitely just the pads though. One was metal on metal. For some reason it didn't have a wear indicator so I didn't know until it was metal on metal.

Two new rotors and two sets of pads and I'm ready to go. Gonna do it in an hour or so.
