I see lots of threads on 4wd suspension upgrades. What's the route for 2wd? RAS, hellwig antisway, and call it good? Just picked up a 2002 V10 and plan to tow a 35' 9600# 1280# tongue weight RV.
you can swap springs or add some air bags. I went the airbag route and also added 4 rs9000 shocks and a rear hellwig sway bar. Understand that the hellwig sway bar is supposed to be universal between 2wd and 4wd. When I tried to install it I found some very tight tolerances. Too close to some items... speed sensor, rear and the angle was way off too.I called Hellwig and they asked for some pictures and some measurements. They then said they may be changing the design for 2wd and used my measurements to custom build me a new bar at no cost. The new bar fits awesome and it orks great. I tow a 10k trailer with reese dual cam sway system and it does pretty goo. I hear the arrow is top notch though.
dont forget to upgrade the trans cooler too. The 4r100's dont like heat. The 6.0 coolers are the best. Either the 28 row or the 31 will work well. And while you at pick up a better guage so you can mointor the trans temps.
I think the most common thing I have seen while on this site is using either air bags or switching over to the V-codes as many have already mentioned.
If you end up considering the air bags, let me know and I can send you some links on what kits are available and just some general information to learn more.
All of our compressor systems will work with the Firestone kits. The controller only knows it is feeding a 1/4" air line, I've seen a couple of people run our controllers with Firestone bags.
Let me know if you have any questions about the different options and what best would suit your needs. We offer everything from a simple manual gauge setup to auto leveling and wireless kits.
Back to the drawing board. Went to pick up the excursion today and found it wasn't as described. Thanks for all the input I plan on doing something just not sure what now.
