I replaced my worn out stockers with Rancho RS5000 and love them. I have a friend who has the 9000's and most of the time I don't notice the difference and the 5000's are cheaper.
I have Monroe Reflex shocks on my 04'. Monroe makes Rancho shocks so you are paying for the Rancho name and all but the top end Ranchos are nothing special to begin with. The Reflexs did not stiffen up the ride at all, they just soak up the bumps. I got mine from Rock Auto.
I enjoy my Bilsteins. They work markedly better than the Rancho 5000s. The link about the dissatisfied owner's son was over five years ago. Quoting - "5 years ago shortly after puting [sic] a set on my truck, I helped my father put a set on his 99..."
If the collective Bilstein owners here do not have a plethora of similar stories of failed Bilsteins in all this time, it is safe to say that one 'poor' experience with the product or the US representative does not brand all subsequent products as junk.
