Dash gas gauge question

Dash gas gauge question
So I did a search, nothing really popped up, on the 94 the dash gas gauge stays at about a 1/3 tank when the key is off, is it toast? I have the bed off now so if this is a pump / tank problem I want to address it now.

It will go to full if you disconnect the plug at the tank. And it should go to empty if you ground the pin (sorry I don't remember the color of the wire) for the sending unit.
I don't remember about my 97 250, but I know both of my T-birds (see signature) stay where they were reading when the key is turned off.
I know this does not answer your question but it gives you a couple of things to check..

If the gauge moves when you turn the truck on I believe it is fine, That the problem might be the sending unit in the tank. However if you unplug it, or ground it out like White 97 xlt suggested, you will know for sure.
