Just wanted to say thanks to FTE and the member who posted the link to Time Serts. Some of you out there are going to blow plugs (pre 03?) the repair estimate is around $4000 for ONE SIDE! Take it from me, I've blown two. When and if this happens to you don't *%&# around with those cheap inserts from Monkey Boys or Auto Zoned, your wasting your time & money. You need Time Serts and Big Serts. This isn't the cheapest fix but then again your truck wasn't cheap and at around $150 for the kit once you have the tools the inserts are very inexpensive. In time I plan on putting these "serts" in the remaining 8 holes before I loose another one at the worst possible time. Thanks Again?
"Sert" as in insert that you will eventually be installing when one or more (as is my case) of your spark plugs shoots out of the block. If you have a pre 2003, then I would say yes you have a legitimate concern, unless your's blow while your still under warranty. Its a crying shame Ford hasn't put out a recall yet. Probably a class action suit is what it's going to take. Good Luck
I wish I could say that there was something that I did , besides meticulious up keep and loving care, for no reason at all at approx. 98K and again at 130k I had the wonderfull experience of a nice loud pop ( think shotgun under your hood) and all the ensuing pleasures as you might imagine being 100m. from home.
The first time I McGyvered it and that insert has held however I've yet to change that plug to see what it looks like. The second time I tried the same insert as the first and it leaked. Hince I'm a Big Sert fan from here on, these things are bomber!
There is a specific link on the rest of this sad story, perhaps the moderator could refresh this for the rest of you. Give me a minute and I'll find it. Here it is https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...8&goto=newpost

You make it sound like a very common problem on '98, '99, '00, '01, and '02 vehicles. From reading the posts, I kinda think you are just trying to "stir something up".
No, I was just initially trying to post a thanks to FTE about the info on the time serts, as I said this repair is $4000.00 for one (1) cylinder head at the Dealer. Obviously the problem hasn't happened to you, hope it doesn't happen to you or anyone else. But to quote another FTE member "..you're living in another world if you don't think this is happening.." Monsta led me to the other unfortunate consumers on this site.
Correction 9:1, I've read that the 2003 heads have more material and more threads, this was also a problem on the Mustang.
Another FTE member who actually had a head replaced noted that the replacement head was of the new "improved" version and that there was a visable difference.
