I ham running 35 KM2s on the 81 that I have and the steering pump is just not working that good. Would bleeding the lines, different pulley, different belt, or most of all what I want is another PS pump help? Or i guess i will start with bleeding the lines I bought a reman from advance but I know most of them are junk.
Agreed, Saginaw is totally worth it and pretty cheap and easy. Unlike everyone else, I kept the old dirty pump and didn't replace it with a new one, it's still running strong.
You can break front end parts with it though. No more forcing your wheel in a rut.. it's seriously that good, step below hydraulic ram steering.
The Saginaw is pictured on the left. They all pretty much look like this.

actually, I don't think so. I thought they did, but just did some more reading to make sure and 0 people mentioned Mercon V. Dunno what the heck I was thinking?
I'm worried enough that I'm gonna go check..
to the OP, I want to say again, get a Saginaw. There is absolutely no way to save your current pump, trust me, I tried, and a new one will just wear out really quickly. Don't spend a penny on your current pump in any way, shape or form, no new fluids, no pump saver magic fluids, etc. Everyone eventually goes Saginaw.
The stock pump's impeller is aluminum, it wears, it weakens, it becomes noisy, pressure will drop and drop until the point you have to use two hands to turn in a parking lot. With a Saginaw you'll turn 35s with one finger easily, even after 20 years of use.
Only thing, when you do it (not if), put on a PS cooler. Our stock cooling is pitiful and you can really work these things without realizing it.
Thats good info for someone with 35s my steering is pretty relaxed now that my belt is tight... It was loose along with the bolts holding the pump bracket to the block so i couldn't tighten the belt really good. So i tightened the bolts i had on there (missing one) and then tightened the belt and it whines a bit but it also leaks somewhere so i'm not worried. Before while the belt was slacked i would go in and out of power steering when the motor was idling low or while i was turning quickly. Now it is really easy to turn but there is a slight whine even when the fluid level is full..
Gentlemen, Thank you!!! Looks like that is unanimous. I am going to start researching that and figure it out. Thanks So much that pump was getting annoying.
Oh also a couple more questions. Is there a vehicle that I can pull this off of the came with the Saginaw pump OEM? Also, this will work for any engine set up? Mine is 300 I6
I know people with carb and v-belt do the swap all the time, I do not know which vehicles they get their pumps off of though. If I remember and get a chance I'll look it up for ya'll tomorrow
