The double sided tape method worked for a couple of years, but when the rattle re-emerged I decided I would find a Final Fix, one that would last forever. Here is what I have come up with.
Ash tray bottom masked off and Plastic Dip drizzled on top of the nubs.
Masking removed after drying for a day.
Final Product before re-assembly
So far, Botts dots, railroad tracks and various road imperfections have not caused the slightest noise.<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message --><!-- edit note -->
There is a TSB to fix this here. This has been around for awhile and I thought it was a pretty well known problem and fix, but I guess we missed a few of you. The TSB uses two sided tape which will work for a year or two. Problem is that the tape still allows the small nubs to touch the sides of the holes they fit in. After some time the foam in the two sided tape will allow vibration to get to them and start the rattle all over again. This fix will isolate the nubs from the holes forever, well that's the theory anyway. So far, so good.
