Ignition Pro's - Help!!
I have an F150 and just removed the I6 and dropped in a 351w out of an '86 Bronco. However, the salvage yard guy said that the 351w was a transplant from an unknown year. I installed the radiator, alternator, motor mounts, etc. and all the "normal" engine mounted accessories from the donor truck.
Everything went smooth until I tried to start it with the new engine. There is no spark coming from the coil. I am thinking that the ECM from the '85 I6 is for a computer controlled engine and the ECM needed for the 351w is non-computer controlled. There are definitely a lot less wires and less sending units on the 351w than were on 300 I6. I am guessing that the 351w is around a '79. Can't find where the serial number is on the engine to corroborate the year. Gut feeling is around '79.
I did not get the ECM module from the donor. Am I headed in the right direction? Should I have gotten the module and bypassed the truck's original computer?
Note: the alternator has a wire that isnt connected. It is yellowish/biegish possibly with a black tracer line. As it appears to have been cut, can someone tell me where it goes?
'85, F150, 351W, manual tranny, 4WD, 6", 35x10's
P.S. The engine ran great while in the Bronco so I know its a good engine/coil/distributor.
Thanks much!!!
Rick
