I need a new instrument cluster with the printed circuit on the back. Mine is a warning light cluster. I have warning lights in the two top left and right spots for OIL and ALT. Any idea of a cheap route to go?
You can also find them in the junkyard from time to time. If you pull it from a later-model van, it will be made out of real plastic and not the composite material that was originally installed.
If you pull it from a later model van, the cluster back will be made out of hard plastic and not the composite material that was originally installed that can TURN TO DUST before your very eyes!
The only problem with 'pulling it from a later model van' is: The printed circuit boards are different.

This cluster back was also the FoMoCo Service Part Replacement for the POS composition cluster back that was installed in 1976/79 F100/350's, 1976/80 Econolines, 1978/79 Bronco's.
So, it's possible that these vehicles as well will have it. Some were replaced under warranty, some were replaced customer pay, some were replaced by individuals, but some were never replaced.
I used the rear plastic from a van and install the 73-79 gauges and rear printed circuit board. I have at least 3 clusters set up like this. I put them together in junk yards this way then buy the hybrid cluster as once piece. lol. I usually only do it when I come across an all silver gauge bezel as I like that color the best and its the hardest to find (from my experience), I think it was only used in late 79.

I pulled the cluster from my 79 F350 and it crumbled in my hands. I'm still picking pieces out of the carpet!
I might replace the cluster in the 78, but only the right side illumination lamps don't work. I can live with that!
