Just wondering how many fuel receipts are needed to keep? I keep receipts from the last 3 fill-ups and not sure if that is enough. I have read about the possibility of filing a claim with insurance so would like to be sure I have enough paperwork.
Just to clear things up, I believe we're talking about a potential out-of-warranty HPFP problem caused by bad fuel.
You shouldn't need to provide receipts to the insurance company at all as a condition that they pay the claim. They would go a long way making sure they went after the appropriate party though. I suggest filing a claim with the fuel supplier before the insurance company though.
I keep all of mine in an envelope in the center console... My insurance paid the claim up to my $250 deductible and they would have covered that if I had my receipts from the previous 6 months (almost all from Walmart Murphy Oil). Luckily my lower fuel filter caught most of the dirt. My water separator light was turning on every 7 miles... even after draining it. Took it to the dealer after a day and my lower filter was black, my fuel tank bottom was FULL of debri and had to be dropped and cleaned.
I no longer by diesel from Murphy here, ran into a couple of others that had problems with excessive water in there diesel from Murphy as well.
