Excellent!
Don't worry about GM parts. I have several GM items on my truck, and MOPAR, Toyota, etc.

Duct tape. It's just a mock up now. I'll will need to figure out some kind of bracket for mounting.

As 49pickup mentioned there is a right and left, inboard and outboard. You need to use the inboard only. The outboard has more of a compound contour to them and they do not sit flush on a flat surface.
inboard part numbers are 5954232RH and 5954231LH

Rick, I've seen guys go to the grocery store and find a can of the correct diameter, use tin snips to trim, paint and mount using a drain hole in the bottom.
I've also seen a metal { clip used to mount the lights.

I would go to the store and find a soft plastic bottle of the correct diameter, put small hole in the bottom for suction release, use car wax for a mould release, lay up three layers of fiberglass mat, trim to cotour and mount with a drain hole. Fiberglass won't rust or vibration scratch the fender inside. Only suggestions. chuck

Those 'Vette lights look nice. That is a good way to get a backup light too as the '66s had one of the lights with a clear lens as a backup light. I've had 3 'Vettes and in the 60s we all wanted to add a third light on each side (witness the Jan and Dean song lyrics in Dead Man's Curve). Now everyone is trying to restore them to the original condition and they are pulling out the third light and patching the hole. You might check with a local shop that specializes in Corvette repairs and see if they have some old ones lying around. They also might have a less expensive source. I wonder if they make them in SS 'cause they do pit easily as on a 'Vette they are right above the exhaust. I like Chuck's idea about fiberglass too. Getting the angle right would be tricky but it certainly would be the least expensive way to go and they would not corrode.

I like the tin can idea for mounting. Just need to find the right diameter, cut the right angle and weld it in.
I picked up 2 complete sets of used lights in ebay last week for $36. Sure beats $75 each for new ones. The insides are a bit pitted but some sanding and flat black paint will finish the look I'm going for. I'll try to resell the 4 outer lights.

Hey 71 Mach,
We struggled with what to do about rear lights - The ones that came with our truck were off a trailer. We went corvette but a bit later model.
Good luck up there!

Hey Grant,
My truck threw a rod so it's in the shop for a few weeks. We didn't follow
any specific measurements - just looked to see where they looked the best. I'd just mock it up & see what you think.

Hi Ben,
Those look great but you might want to check your state law on tail lights. I think that they have to be a certain distance from the side of the vehicle.

Sorry about your engine problem. Sounds expensive.

Hey Pete,
I'm sure if they wanted to pull me over & go over the truck they could find a few things out of code. We do have a license plate light & seatbelts - I even looked into crash airbags - couldn't figure out how to make it work.

The engine is being taken apart as we speak - should know more by the end of the week ($1650 for a rebuild if that's indeed what it needs).

Even if there isn't something wrong they can find a reason to pull you over...

Put LED bulbs in them. A cop would have to be looking for an excuse to pull you over to be concerned about how far they are from the edges of the vehicle, in such a case they will find something to cite no matter what. I frenched in round LED lights into my rear pan for backup lights as well as a retractable antenna into the cowl by using a section of metallic electrical conduit (it come is a number of different sizes) and welding it to a piece of 16 ga sheet then trimming it around the perimeter and added a short section of 1/4 steel fuel line for a drain line. I then cut a hole the outside diameter of the tube in the pan. I slipped the tube thru the hole to the depth I wanted, held it in place with 2 pairs of small vise grips grasping the edge sticking thru the hole. I welded it in place then ground down the excess flush with the panel. That way I got a perfect match to the panel's contour. I then used a fine 1/2 round file to radius the edge. I have pictures of the process for the antenna in my "making changes" gallery. I bought the lights from LED Lights, Bulbs & Accessories - SUPER BRIGHT LEDS

Yes, add-on airbags would be nice but those things can kill you if they are not mounted correctly. The first generation were made in WV by the company that made Polaris missiles.

What kind of seat belts did you use. I need to get those but the selection is kind of overwhelming.

Good luck on your engine. Hope it isn't too bad but if you threw a rod I can't imagine that it will be cheap.
