Rev-X advice

Hi guys! Well I'm back again after curing most of my problems but coming up with a solution for yet another....... I believe I have a stiction issue. When I start it up cold I'm getting some white smoke for about a minute than it goes away. I would think this is a stiction issue on an injector. I was reading about Rev-X and wondered how many bottles I would need and also if I would add it to the oil or fuel.... Any advice on where to start with the Rev-X would be greatly appreciated!!!!! Thanks!!!

Rev-x is added to the oil, but to me white smoke usually means coolant. Have you smelled the smoke to see if it was sweet (coolant) or diesel?

You should really start by checking your FICM voltages and if you don't already run it, swap your oil to a lighter weight like 5W-40.

Is your degas bottle low?

npccpartsman: The smoke didn't smell sweet to me just very "diesely". Forgive me if I'm wrong but if it were a coolant issue wouldn't the smoke continue instead of going away?

high binder: I've checked my FICM voltages three times in the last year always coming up normal. I've ran Mobil 1 5w40 turbo diesel since I've owned it. My degas bottle is barely low. Any ideas?

Depending on the size and location of the coolant leak, it can burn off after a bit or just vaporize untill it gets totally out of control.

Do you still have an EGR cooler?

I really hope there is no coolant leak. I don't have an EGR cooler anymore, brand new oil cooler, brand new ARP head stud install etc.... All of that was done less than 5,000 miles ago and I have not noticed any problems until it was very cold outside and the truck hadn't been started in over a week........

Here's and example of injector stiction and how Rev X mitigates it. I'm not sure white smoke is due to stiction.

Switch to 5-40 and it will probally run better especially in cold weather and if you have an extra $50 get some rev-x . I run 5-40 in my truck and it has had no problems with injectors , when I ran 15-40 in it, it ran real loud till it warmed up the oil a little.

I'm actually interested in what this might be, I have that same issue (white smoke for a min), FICM is great, newly fixed, and I currently run Rev-x...15w oil though...

You'll need two. You might want to do a search for archoil products.

rev x

im not sure the rev-x does much. i added it oil change before last and didnt do anything to help with rough run and hard cold start. my problem ended up being the glop plug control module. no issues now, besides being a 6.0l

If the last time you checked it was when the temps were warmer, like at the end of the Fall, then the FICM could have looked normal back then.
When the oil and coolant was below about 50*F at start-up, that was when my FICM started to have issues. I was having to plug my truck in every night to get the temps up so I had good FICM volts in the morning ... just an fyi.

to me it sounds like an injector is leaking slightly. its gonna be hard to find but i doubt rev-x will cure the smoking problem. it is good stuff though!
