just wanted to see who's from mass with a 6.9 diesel, its not to often i see them on the road anymore and its a shame. in my opinion i like the older model fords like the 80's to mid 90's better than the newer models. I'm 18 and love my extended cab 8 ft bed 87 6.9 diesel.
im 20, but from Montana and i needed a workhorse truck that could also get good mileage....as well as take some serious rides and be put away wet.....there are a lot of guys that are from the east coast that have IDI's....
From ma. here and I guess Iam the old guy at 58 But Iam still wrenching. In the process of converting a 1990 E250 camper that I took out a gas 5.8 and converting it over to a 7.3 diesel. Iv already convered it from 2WD to a 4x4 about 2 years ago The diesel I picked up ran good but after I took it apart to reseal and gasket it I found cracks in the pistons. So now I get to add another 3,500 to the job for a rebuild never ends Bob in central ma.
I'm from western mass and have an 88 F250 with 7.3L, not quite the 6.9 you were looking for, but still an idi
I'm also a fan of the older trucks. I haven't really looked at specific years, but somewhere in the 2000's the trucks just started looking butt ugly. (most cars had already gotten there too). Granted, today's vehicles have more safety features, but also way too many electrical things to go wrong. Not to mention the fact you can have a tiny little slow fender bender, and pretty much total it.
kb1jid,
Sounds like you are working on one heck of a project there!
i agree with ya bud, i love the 7.3L i hate all of the new electric BS, electric windows and locks is good enough for me, now you got your power mirrors and heated mirrors and electronic ignitions. my dad has a 2009 f-350 crew cab 8 ft bed. 10 cylinder 460 (gas hog) he put 18,000 miles on it when he bought it and his motor blew. he drove home on 2 cylinders, he has also gone through cats, full exhaust systems, his electronic 4wd system has gone a lot, the whole truck has just been problematic. don't get me wrong it is a beautiful truck and will push snow like crazy and tow anything, but i swear that truck was built on a friday before vacation or a monday after. but like i have been saying i love seeing older model ford pickups on the road
