Grill gasket

While cleaning my 49 grill ,around the headlights there was a gasket, looked like fabric, pretty sure it is original, dont see any vendors carrying one. What have you done? thought about using inner tube cut and glued, thoughts???

I don't like fabric, even the tarred variety cause it can absorb moisture. On the 48 F1 I put my body panels together using silicone caulk - including the headlight panel, but I painted panels before assembly.

Paint won't stick to silicone tho, so I wouldn't suggest it if painting after its assembled.

Is the following what you're asking for?

11A-13044 .. Gasket-Headlamp Bucket to Fender / Reproduced

Applications: 1941/48 FoMoCo Passenger Cars / 1942/47 Commercials & Trucks / 1948/55 Trucks.

Listed/illustrated in Carpenter's 1948/56 truck repro parts catalog on page 61 (2011 paper version) @ $4.00 each.

Bill, I think you might have what he was asking about. With all the discussion about grills on the other thread, I thought first about the grill to fender, not the headlight buckets.

I used the normal gasket under the headlight bucket that Bill is referring to.

Not the headlight bucket gasket, this was around the outside frame of the grill,(the part connecting with the fenders etc.)

About all it does is cut down on the squeaks. Some form of caulking works just as well.
