Has anyone used the heavy duty headlight relay upgrade? I have been happy with my lights so far, but a little more couldnt hurt! Has anyone actually installed this? Its a cheap upgrade at 30$. Does It make a noticeable difference? Or would I be better off saving my $$$ for a 05 upgrade? Thanks guys!!
No, but I would be wary of buying a kit from them because of using cheap parts. I considered the same thing, but I figured for the same money (plus a little extra), I can custom build my own harness and buy quality relays.
The actual process of upgrading to relays isn't that hard. What I was always concerned about with the LMC kit was how they mentioned it was plug-and-play (at least that's what's mentioned in my Expedition catalog). I figured you would have to splice the factory harness to control the relays.
Thanks for the reply 97expguy, I am not the best with wiring so plug and play sounded good to me! Hopefully someone here can confirm quality and effectiveness!! Thanks again!
I used the Dfuser harness. It is plug and play, you don't have to splice anything. There are two ring terminals that connect to the positive battery post, then fusible links to the relays. You unplug one of the headlights and plug that connector into the harness. This connection is what triggers the relays. One for high beam and one for low beam.
Then you plug the other two connectors into the headlights. You also need to find a good ground screw near each of the headlight connectors. It's about that simple.
Having said that however, I have had problems with the Dfuser harness. I have had to take at least one of the connectors out and solder it because the terminal was not crimped properly and was making an intermittent connection, and right now my drivers side lights are not working. I haven't had time to test to see if it's the bulb or the harness. I think it's probably the harness again, because I don't think both high and low beam filaments in a bulb would burn out at the same time.
