Headlamps

I will be pulling my HID kit out tomorrow due to problems with smoke that I discovered today after I noticed a headlight out. What is everyone going with Non HID? The kit should have a lifetime warranty but I'm pulling it anyway. I have 02 lights in my 01. What bulb do I need ?

I strongly recommend a relay wiring harness and HELLA 100/80watt bulbs. More usable light than the HID's and without annoying oncoming drivers.

I've used Rally Lights, Hella, TerraTrip, Hans, WRC, ZAMP for these items for years now.

You need 9007 bulbs.

Jason thanks for posting the link to that website. You had posted it before but I couldn't find it. Just the other day I was looking at headlight relay wiring harness and all I could find was Chinese made with cheap relays. I like the fact that rallylights.com use Hella products and this harness is on my wish list along with the Hella bulbs.

I was in need of something quick, I had to pull fuse on HID in fear of burning my truck up. I just pulled the HID out and installed NAPA maximum distance just so I will be able to drive at night, thanks for input

Now I'm getting ready to pull the resonator off my exhaust because I'm in need of the power I lost once I installed it

I've recommended this for years. I know dozens of people who have used it and NOBODY has ever been disappointed. This is a solid solution to the anemic OE lighting and has outperformed options like retrosolutions hid kits in side-by-side comparisons over and over again.

$92.63 is quite expensive for what can be done with two relays and 12 connectors. And, of course some wire. Somewhere around $10 - $15.

I've done this to several vehicle including my own. When used in conjunction with a Sylvania Ultra Bright #9007 65w bulbs ($24 - $49 depending on where you look) it is a GREAT improvement.

I bought my harness from GOS a few years back. Some of the best money I EVER spent on this truck.

Quick 10 minute installation.

I am fully capable of building this harness and now that their price has gone up $25 I have considered building them for friends. However, you won't build the harness they are selling for $15... The are using HELLA relays and bases, heavy duty wire, ceramic pigtails. They are also built by real Americans in PA. It's well worth the money for anybody who isn't set up to build their own.

Because of issues like yours and the RF interference it introduces to the truck. Our trucks were not designed to have all the HID components so there's no shielding on the harnesses and wires to prevent messing with the signals, most notably for people that have a performance chip.

I respectfully disagree. With roughly 50% more wattage than OEM I guarantee that the improved light output that the driver enjoys has improved the glare to oncoming traffic (hence the disclaimer that those bulbs are not legal for highway use). They just don't look as offensive since they are in a housing that is already designed around that style of bulb, unlike the HID conversions that throws a different light pattern from the bulb. This makes the light cutoff ineffective and the why low beam HID conversions look like high beams on the road. It's gotten to the point that just about everybody has installed these $30 kits so it has become the norm so nobody bothers flashing their high beams at you. It just doesn't matter and what's the point because in a few seconds you'll pass me and I won't have to look at that annoying glare any more.

I was going to go the HID route until I read about the interference (and the fact that it is illegal in CA to install bulb types other than what came OEM). Instead I got the 2005 lights.

Agreed! Made a big difference on my truck too. Now I just need to find the time to install the 2005 lights sitting in my garage...

Because the cut-off lines are factory with these bulbs and the fact they don't have that glare effect retro HID's produce - they are not annoying to oncoming traffic. In fact, I'd argue they are still less offensive than many of the OEM stuff on the road today. Believe me, I am not into offensive lighting. As my eyes get older, I am more sensitive to this than ever...

I have no problem adding driving lights to supplement anemic high beams. In fact, I had a pair of aircraft landing lights (100watts each) on my dually for a long time. The REFLECTION from those lights on street signs would hurt my eyes - these were not an option when oncoming traffic was possible, but OMG did they light up the road!!! For miles too!

The 2005 light output sucks by comparison (to relay harness and 100/80 bulbs). Especially with aftermarket lenses. They also use 9008/H13 bulbs that have tiny, needle-size pins to carry the load. I also prefer to see the 'heritage' of our 7.3 headlights, grill and bumper.

Which one of those is needed for a 2001 Excursion? "HL28277 - Upgrade Harness for Two 9007 Lamps"? What about a source for the "HELLA 100/80watt bulbs"? I've replaced my foggy headlight assemblies with new clear-style ones (I hate those headlight retention clips with a passion).

Just had a nice (slight) encounter with a deer that could have been avoided with better lighting...
