Exhaust?

ok new guy here, i know these motors normally have weak studs and gaskets which is why i wont be installing a programmer until i do studs/head gaskets, so my ? really is would jus a intake and exhaust cause problems for my truck

truck already has a intake from the previous owner

truck is jus shy of 169k miles, i have personally replaced the IPR/FICM/Injectors

and if it wont hurt what are some good systems that wont kill the pocket but sound amazing

Do you think a intake/exhaust will cause any problems? I have heard those and I like them

The stock intake is good for 500 hp and no a/m filters better in its operating range. Leave the intake alone. This is not an op. It's been proven.

As I understand it, exhaust wont cause any problems. Unless you consider a possible slight increase in mileage and horsepower a problem.

On another note, I have had experience with an SCT tuner with custom tunes from Matt@gearheads. Matt ensures that the tunes he writes (for non-studded use) are safe with non-studded engines. He does suggest to go with a larger exhaust for EGT however. If you were to do this, gauges are a VERY good idea too.

The unlimited tow setting Matt writes is pretty much the same as the Ford Stock tow tune, just turns off a CEL that you might want to go away:-. His SRL tune has much better peddle response and is very fun to drive (and also turned off that pesky CEL I referred to above). I have had no problems running with these tunes non-studded... Knock on wood.

Matt at Gearhead and Eric at Inovative have some performance tunes that are CRAZY fun too. But for those you would definitely need to stud your truck. If you decide to go with an SCT tuner and custom tunes, you would need to advise of what they are for and they can be written milder, but a BIG improvement over stock. JMO

Back to exhaust, don't be afraid of exhaust. The only thing is, if you want to remain within your state's smog requirements, you will need to go with cat back, vise turbo back. To pass smog you would need to have the cat in place, although there is an item I have heard of called a "Test Tube", which you bolt in, in place of the cat and can put it back when needed... Don't know much about these.

Of course, if you choose to maintain compliance with smog laws, in that case a tuner would be out of the question too...

The stock air intake is great stuff and good to go, unless you go with CRAZY performance mods. For yours, stock is good.
