With the family at the Lakehouse and me home with a cold, I have been watching Barrett-Jackson and Mecum this weekend. (Thanks DVR).
The Shelby Mustangs @ B-J went for HUGE, HUGE $$$$$$. My guess is that Carroll Shelby is 89 years old...not doing well BTW...when he passes these Thorough breds will go for record dollars.
This year I am amazed at the high quality cars and high dollar sales at B-J. The # of muscle cars tripping over $ 100,000 is unreal. Two years ago they went for significantly less. Is the economy turning around?
After 4 years of stalking muscle car auctions....If my darlin' wife would ever let me buy a muscle car, at auction, I think I would buy at Mecum and sale at B-J.
I think that part of what is driving the turnaround in prices, is that the buyers are thinking that the money may not be worth as much in the future so they should go ahead and spend it.
Just think if we had pulled out the money from the 401k and used it to have bought a tangible object instead of watching it disappear in the financial meltdown.
Yep...Even on a local basis, I missed a beautiful 1970 Formula 400 Ram Air III Firebird for (even had power windows) in 2009 for $ 18,000. Today, you can't find one in the same condition for under $ 40,000. Even then...no power windows.

I agree. Instead of return ON their investment, many people these days wish they could get return OF their investment. A well bought collector car is a lot less risky than playing the financial markets these days.
