Whats a 77 trans am worth?

I have an opportiny to buy a 77 trans am 400/4 speed. The body is rough from sitting so long not sure if it runs or not for $350 with title. Yall think I could turn a profit fairly quick?

For what you'd probably put into that car, it would exceed the cars value... They just don't seem to be a very popular car - a 60's car, maybe - a 70's car, not likely...

Actually the smog era trans ams have been trading for a real decent penny lately. But the 77-81 bandit style T/As are not nearly as valuable as the 73-76 455 birds. As for the car youre referring to, forget it if its got rust issues. floor pans, rockers, trunk pan, cowl, shock towers, sails, quarters, door skins are all weak areas of these cars, even worse with t tops. T top cars without subframe connectors have tracking problems and way too much unibody flex and wiggle. I had a 77 Z28 with hurst tops that the passenger side t top panel would pop out at the tabs during hard left cornering.
Its probably worth 350 in scrap if thats what you want but youre better off trying to find a decent one for more $.

IMHO, the 77 T/A would be a great project if one had the skills, time and money. As for making money, fagetaboutit.

The money makers on the Firebirds are the '69-'72.

I had an '80 T/A with the 4.9L (Pontiac 301 Cid) and I had a blast with that baby. The body was built real cheap but she was very strong mechanically.

The engine is worth the asking price, if it's a good builder.
The trans $4-500
The rest would be gravy!

x2 doug. If you have the time and space. If the 400/TH400 is rebuildable, someone will want it. Rusty sheet metal wont be worth a dime but the dash, console, door panels, steering wheel, column (if tilt), switches, glass, shaker scoop, urethane and rear spoiler all worth a few bucks if decent to the right buyer. 77-81 birds all interchange everything.

grab it, missed that. The pedal set up will also be salable for someone wanting a conversion.
Just how bad is the body?

they're hard too find in anything other than early american rust finish in these parts , and to be honest outside of the motor and 4 gear it prolly isn't worth diddly . everyone 'round here thinks the things are worth big bucks especially if it's black like mr. bandits ............................... poor misguided peeps .............. now a kid i worked with has got his dad's gold 77 that looks like it just came off the showroom floor with less than 50,000 on it and he has had some pretty serious offers on it ............ not for sale though as it was dad's .............

To quell the speculation. As I said earlier, they ARE trading at better numbers but not to the extent of 73-76s and, as Tim said, no where near the 69-72 hi perf bb birds.
And yes, we're all aware that NADA is but a small barometer of real value, but the 77-81 birds have gone up dramatically in the last 2-3 years.

By 77' it had the Olds based 403, not the true Pontiac 400 6.6, HP numbers were uninspiring............Another undesirable feature.
