The little rat *******s stole the fuel out of our 18wheeler and came back the next night and took the gas powered pump that was mounted to a water trailer.
I want to install a camera system at the farm headquarters and catch this thief. Any of Yall familiar with these systems?
I have been looking around for a while on line and there are a few good systems out there that you can set up without going to a service provider.
I have some links to that but its on my other pc.
I would go buy a few posted signs or something like that. I was going to set up my own system and go to a graphic sign company and have them mimic some of the known security providers signs but change the alpha line up on the signs so its not a copy issue with the development.
The system I have been looking over was for my house and was not as exspensive.
However it may not be a bad investment considering how much value you have there that they could continue steeling. Most likely its someone with in a few miles of the farm that has simular needs or operation.
However some motion sensors are too sensitive and come on it the wind blows.
Maybe if you drew up a simple diagram that shows the existing lights and approximate dimentions these folks could get you a package set up for your place.
Thanks Rock! I have not looked at the links yet but I know the price of these systems are going down.
The cr@pper about it is that we just installed locking fuel caps on that truck. They just beat on it till it came loose. Now they have a pump that can steal fuel out of the underground storage tanks at a gas station. I hope they catch themselves on fire next time.

Oh dont worry about them getting thier due. I think the lord sets them up for hell on earth, they just dont know that they are living in it and wonder why they keep having bad luck and getting in trouble. Do you deal with the county on this or local?
So true. I filled a report with the sheriffs. It's a pain to do when we are not going to inform our insurance co. but I think it is important to get it in their database. I'm gunna have to weld steel lockable doors over the fuel tanks on that truck.
My farm hq is right off the hwy. In plain view. No fence. No one lives there. 4 barns locked up like fort Knox. Everything in the barns are locked up. I'm gunna need to build a fence and install cameras.
Just a list of past stolen stuff:
Batterys out of tractors.
Fuel.
Fishing supplys out of truck.
Everything out of barn (tools/shovles/drillpress).
Radio antennas(Rtk).
Aluminum barrels.
My old jeep(broke down 2miles away-got it back).
I have also conducted a citizens arrest on two guys on motorcycles. I think the sheriffs know me
The two guys on dirt bikes were blasting through the fields (trespassing) It was two/three days after a tractor was vandalized. It took 20min for the sheriffs to get there.

Always frustrating to hear stuff like this Dave.
Maybe they smoke and we'll see them on the Darwin Awards list next year.
Wow, that's messed up. Thieving scumbags. I hope you catch them on film. I dont know if it's worth it, but i'd be tempted to leave an old gas can next to one of the barns, kinda obvious like. But it would be mostly filled with water and just enough gas to make it smell good. I'd be tempted to leave an old diesel can sitting there, in the same condition. It would be a matter of time before the thieves come back and make off with them and try to fill their tanks. That would be a good lesson for them to learn.
As for the cameras; i've seen the wildlife/deer cams come down in price in the last year. I saw a few at wally world for 50-60 bucks; that was with night vision and proximity sensors.

make sure you get one with the night vision but also the night vision ones have different lengths as to how far you can see at night, like some only out 10' from where the camera is mounted and some 25', so depending on where you mount it. I made that mistake at my shop, trying to go a little cheaper on the camera cost me more later.

What type was it and how did it capture the pics single motion etc. Just wondering in that the neighbors house two doors down was rob of 6 k and they think it was a inside job. Kids are real young so the house keepers friends and contacts are suspected. some how they new thier work schedule. House was ransacked and they only took things that were hard to trace, cash and jewls. Left computers, Ipads etc
So since then I ahve been doing a little online shopping for my own set up. No contracts, they are actually making it eaisier and for the home DIY people, PC can send email to your phone and vids and pic if its a iphone.
