I agree. As a 26 year old that has had the privlage to drive some nice classics, and own one. I hear kids say things all the time about there cars and all i can think is you have no idea. Unfortunalty everyone thinks a 4 cylinder runs the streets have never had a v8 to drive and to feel that torque
i had a few cars back in the day. 70 gsx stage 1, 69, 70 chevelle 454 both 4 spd but the 70 had nitrous and that was fun to drive all over the road, 70 nova 454, 70 duster 340, 69 camaro 454 nitrous, 78, 80 malibu 350 w/ tunnel rams, 87 grand national, 76 camaro 350 cheater n.o.s., 77 buick regal parts runner no trunk lid no rear glass no rear or passenger seat, 77 cutlass 350 w a/c, 70 el camino 350, 78 toyota p/u parts runner, 97 blazer v6 vortec. i loved each and everyone of these. a lot of love, sweat and time went into each one. every once in a while i would think about these cars and wish i had it all back. i miss these cars. i could not pick one over the other. they each had their own attitude and personality. yeah you could say i'm emotionally attached to these cars. i have had people say to me its like you and your cars are attached at the hip. lol!! i remember i went to look at a triumph tr-6. i took it for a test drive and i couldn't believe how much power and torque that little british car had. how ever things didn't work out and i ended up not buying it. well that's it for now. hopefully more to come in the future???
Lucky bas****s, I'm only 22 so I didn't get to play with the fun stuff when it was new, but I have driven a 390 powered F250 that could do a 4 wheel burnout... I thought my 7.3 had a lot of torque until that moment.
Some of us young ****heads have seen/played with the fun stuff, although it is quite sad how pleased my peers (my generation) seems to be with mediocre cars. I mean what idiot came up with putting a V6 in a mustang? And what was wrong with the old engines where the torque came on quick, hell I just drove my dads 05 today no performance until it's over 4000.

I wonder if some of that has to do with the older engines being push rod engines, and the newer engines having overhead cams.
My 89 F150 with a 351w, has a quicker response and low end power than my dad's 07 F150 with a 5.4.

Short answer is, the tree huggers and the Federal government regulated them to death

The base model Mustang has always had a small engine. Original 64 1/2 Mustangs had a tire smokin' 170 6 cyl. And for many years, the base engine in the Mustang was the 2.3 4cyl!
BTW the new V6 Mustangs actually run pretty strong...
Yea i believe around the mid 70's is when the goverment and car makers really started to go down hill in power. And yea the mustangs have always had a base model. The 64 1/2 mustang also came with a 200 motor and ive driven one and there still pretty fun to cruise in.
almost all new cars have a factory equipped "dead-pedal". they have electronically controlled throttle bodies, and they dont slap open when you mash it. they gradually open, and most dont open 100% until around 4krpm. this also means slower throttle response.
I had a few fast cars and trucks back in the 70s including a few with big block power, but my wifes 94 LT1 Caprice is one of the most impressive. Off the line not so great compared to my buddys Chevelle with a 396 but hitting the skinny pedal at 70 will get you past 100 and beyond very quickly and calmly.
I always felt that Ford would have an instant classic if they had put the V10 or even the 5.4 into the CV, I read about a guy that put a mod V10 in a Merc and it was a gas.
