So a couple of months ago I bought a 1964 to fix up the body is fine and needs a little work the only problem is it wont run. It turns over fine I just cant get it to spark. Ive put into is new spark plugs, spark plug wires, new ignition coil. The distributor is fine and everything thing i put a voltage test to the wires and i got nothing out of them so I'm pretty sure the whole thing just needs to be rewired. The guy i bought it from said the ignition wires were burnt out and the last time he had it running was 6 years ago.
Can i get anyones opinion on what the think the problem is and if you have and other questions. How much do you think it would cost to get it rewired? thanks
I don't see any mention of gas. Is there gas to the carb? Have you changed out the fuel filter(s) ensuring the fuel pump is pushing gas...I just put a new one on my 64. Loosen the line slightly going into the carb and see if gas is making it to the carb when you turn it over - you can test the plug fire by using a spark plug test tool or simply have someone bump the key and with the plug boot on the plug and the plug resting or grounded against the block, check for fire across the plug gap. Be careful,,,,it will light you up if you touch it bare-handed
i also forgot to mention there is no ignition i bought new keys and a new ignition but still have to hook it up. i have only been turing it over by puting the things you hook up to the battieris to each other not the safest way but it works to turn it over
Just a thought? in the Distributor where the points are, there is a small ground wire, it grounds the points to the Distributor housing'', sometimes they get loose or corroded?
Check to make sure it is tight and clean contacts to the housing, hope this helps?
These ole trucks have been around the block for 40 plus years..lol? almost as long as I have?

If you are trying to hot wire it, you need to run power to the coil also or you won't get any spark. Run power to the + side of the coil and then try turning it over.
Dont forget the voltage regulator which on these as I recall are adjustable and the starter relay. Also, is the coil and dizzy wired right ?? Its easy to get them switched given the location of the coil assuming its a 292 engine you are working on. Also, make sure the wires are making good contact...if the coil doesnt have the center contact in it its worthless...condensors have been known to be bad out of the box too.
If you have a continuity checker I would start making sure you are getting contact from point A to point B.
