replacing timing belt

I am replacing the time belt as it has crack. I found TDC, lined the marks up, then when I managed to snap the old belt. luckily everything was lined up.

Though I did not loosen the camshaft bolt before this, resulting in the camshaft moving slightly. I used the "starter and breaker bar and gave it a light ignition turn. The marks are still there. I am now moving the camshaft left and right to make sure the TDC mark lines up.

Questions:

1. What happens if I rotate the camshaft ONLY? do I only need to set it at TDC? or will removing spark plug 1 and checking for TDC be more reassuring?

2. The Oil gear easily rotates without any force. Am I to just line it up and call it a day? What happens if I rotated ONLY that?

and the belt tensioner.... Any tricks? I cannot slip on the belt doing it by myself, trying to pull the tensioner back. I have the 2 bolts loosened..

3. The Cam gear has always stayed right there, at most rotating it left and right to center the "<>" Safe?

4. Sooooo. Is it as long as all the marks line up, I am set? given that There as been no full rotation of just one of the 3 gears?

Ouch, gonna have to figure out what kind of engine you have, do I really have that much interest?

Line up the diamond to diamond and the triangle to the triangle, rotate belt thru two revolutions to distribute the stress, then turn on the tightener.

That's if you have the engine I think you have.

2.3l 1997 ford ranger

Got it all lined up, rotated by hand a few times to check and it was on the marks again. Put it together and it started fine. The TDC on the crank was a little off compared to the others, but it was TDC via spark plug hole. I played with this by moving the gear forward one tooth, and backward one tooth, and it did not get closer. That is why I checked with plug 1

Am getting this tick noise. When I press on the gas, it will increase.

I read it could be the spark plug boot. I Did take off plug 1 and check for TDC. Hopefully it is just the boot not on all theway.

EDIT_--------------------

No more ticking. There WAS a louder 1-time click right at startup but that was it. drove it down the block and back, (with filled cooling liquid and no signs of knock/ tick. I got the tick yesterday night at 1:30AM so I am not sure if it was the valves sticking and just broke loose.

Though the damn water inlet tube off the water pump is leaking major. I heard Vaseline? I even got the $9.00 o-ring from Ford....
