I got a Mazda 626 with 2.5L V6 (basically identical to Ford Probe)
I recently changed the timing belt and the water pump. After this work, the engine shakes in "D" when parked. It does not vibrate in any other gear. It runs well on highway. Nothing else is abnormal.
When I installed the timing belt, I was off by 1 tooth on the Camshaft. Could this be the problem?
Or is it the engine mount? It looks OK.
Or the Harmonic Balancer?
Please advise, I don't know what to do. Hopefully I won't have to take the whole thing apart again.
Depending on how big the teeth are on the belt, you seem to have gotten lucky that you didnt damage your head/valves. Id put the belt back one notch where it should be.
It runs fine at highway speed, probably because you advanced your cam timing a little. I would say it's 99% that not getting the cam gear aligned right is your problem.
If you don't have to belt aligned right your timing will be off. But just setting the timing won't be enough, double check the belt. If it's correct have the timing set. Alot of mazda's engine are non-interference but I can't be certain on this model.
