i want to rebuild my 300 to get the most power for 4 x4
what should i do and where do i get the kit also any comments on puting 4 berral manafold on is good or bad
There are lots of performance parts out there for the 300. Clifford Performance sells alot of performance parts or just stock parts. as for the four barrel manifold, an engine can only burn so much fuel. you will probably get a little more power but for the price of bad fuel economy. To me, the good isn't enough to outway the bad. Good luck hope this helps
Cliffords is a great source for performance parts for the 300 six. In case you don't already know the 300 has a 4 inch bore and 4 inch stroke as a result this engine can produce tons of low end torque. To start off it's a great engine for a 4wd truck, I would recommend going to a low end cam, an RV maybe one step higher but not too high because too big of cam can kill your low end. If you want to step up the carb, I would recommend a larger 2bbl carb over the 4bbl. A 4bbl would be great for a street engine but you are looking for grunt not speed. An upgraded exhaust system i.e. Flowmaster...etc, and you might concider upgrading your ignition system a hotter coil, set of wires, and plugs. Most inportantly because you will be running the engine at low speeds, concider running a 160 degree thermostat; a cooler running engine will perform better. One thing to concider, the parts for this engine are a little more costly than that of a V8, If you are looking for a dependable workhorse that will last long time the 300 is the only way to go.
Let's see, stock cam, 240 head (ported and polished), Offenhauser intake, Holley 350cfm 2BBL, EFI dual manifolds, and a DUI spark system. Excellent low-end torque, and a good high end as well. Also, 4.1:1 gears work wonders-
